So I was on YouTube and previewed a trailer about a movie coming to theaters in the summer called "An Inconvenient Truth". Its basically a documentary about global warming narrated by former vice president Al Gore. After I watched the trailer I read several of the comments made by people who viewed the trailer. Most people bashed on the movie saying its propaganda, its a way to make money off of scarying people, its all Bullsh1t, we are making a mountain out of an anthill ,that it is no big deal, and that the world is not going to end. These comments made me upset at the fact that people are so F-ing ignorant. They are not trying to scare people, they are trying to warn and prevent the world from killing us all. No the world is not going to end in terms of the Earth exploding but natural disasters will cause mass extinction for species and we humans are no exception. We are long over due for a natural disaster that wipes out entire species. Global warming will only increase the chances of destroying civilizations. And trust me, God is not coming to save us all. This will gradually affect us, just like the process of evolution.

Some people also questioned the choice of using Al Gore as the narrator/expert of globing warming. I remember when Gore ran against Bush, Gore was in favor of improving the planet, whereas Bush was neglecting it. Gore is a good spokes person for Global warming prevention. Another interesting fact is Bush's mars project. Bush is spending billions of dollars to find ways to explore Mars and eventually have the whole human race move to the planet. Sounds ridiculous but it is true. Even NASA scientist have said that we humans are depleting the resources on earth and that we need to find a new home. This relocation to Mars probably wont happen in our life time, but why dont we try to fix things at home right now. I dont want to put too many facts here because I dont know all the details, but Im just pissed off at how many ignorant selfish people there are out there. Humans have not been on this planet for a very long time. We are dominant now, but so were the dinosaurs and look where they are now. Nature will find ways to change the order of things. Lastly we just cant think about the present, we have to think about the future. If a major disaster does come in the future, Im sure our descendents would probably say, "Damn my ancestors and people of his time sure screwed us over." It might not be scary now because you are sitting at home on our computers , but just ask Katrina victims how devastating mother nature can be.

hmm.. that sounds like a very inresting documentary and i would be interested in watching the show..
Well, i just took a enviromental chemistry course and yeah there are soo many things that is causing global warming.. its kinda scary.. Since, carbon dioxides are rising as every passing years its not a good sign. BUt then also on the good side, we haven't yet reached the point of reducing carbons levels but we have dramatically reduced the emissions of CO2 levels through that years. I think that is good progress.. Nothing comes instantly but there are little changes in everyday life that is slowly chaning things.

overall, i can say that the changes are not super dramatic but there are little changes that are happening out there. Whatever is being done counts right.
And there are lots of researching being done out there, i had to read tonns of envroimental studies paper and there are lots of reasearch and experients being done that is helping our envirment.

Once my science teacher told me that global warming might not be 100% caused by humans. it is cause by changes in Earth's orbit? if ice age can happen, so can global warming... just a thought

Fad, yeah, it may not be 100% by humans, I fully agree. Infact the magnetic poles have actually flipped many times before, where south becomes north and vice versa. However a significant amount is being contributed by humans with their by products.

No the world won't end, cockroaches will always be here, duh. People -are- ignorant though. I had someone tell me that water was an infinite resource because 75% of the world is covered by it. There's a quote that my friends and I used to pass around, I forgot who it was by though:

"I have learned from history that man does not learn from the past",

we tacked on a little extra:

    "Thankfully history repeats itself"

Basically what we're saying is that humans will only learn by screwing up themselves. Unfortunately it will be a costly mistake. I hope I am still around when it happens though, I am very interested in the world's reaction to it.

I think that our generation and culture just thinks that we are invincible and that we can live on like this forever. I read this book called A Short Progree on History and it was definitely an eye opener for me. I can't remember the author but it was selected on Massey Lecture a few years back. It looks at how civilizations in the past have perished and we are no exception!

Global warming is real and will affect everyone. It may not be so visible now, but 50 to 100 years down the track...the inheritants of Earth will pay for our mistakes.

One solution is to stop drinking cows milk. Did you know cows are the biggest culprit when it comes to air pollution. Methane is more than 20 times more potent than Carbon dioxide in causing global warming. Annually, cattle generate about 100 million tonnes of methane -shock

I personally find Al Gore to be a fuckin boring ass lecturer. I fell asleep a few times during the movie (I forced myself to watch it because I feel like I should). Sure the Earth is going through a global warming phase (In rapid speeds), but why worry about it when no one is willing to stop. The United States will never give in, China will never give in, India will never give in, and the rest of the world will just laugh while tree hugging politicians try to slow the process.

    Ask yourself these questions:
    1) Are you willing to give up automobiles?
    2) Are you willing to give up 50% of your diet?
    3) Are you willing to give up this computer and plant a tree?

My answer would be helllll no. So honestly why worry about Global warming?

    1) Ice cap melting (Who the hell cares its ice melting for christ sake)
    2) Sea levels rising (Shit happens move your house away from the ocean)
    3) Various global warming related disasters (Shit happens people die. Disasters happen regardless of global warming)

    Am I ignorant?
I personally don't think so...why worry about something that people can adapt to? Live it and tough it out.

No one ever said we have to give up our cars, computers, and 50% of our diet. What we need to do is find ways to reduce pollution. Yeah people die every day from various things like car accidents, so does that mean we should stop people from driving? No, we should set a speed limit and develop safer vehicles. Yes people will die from natural disasters regardless of global warming, but there are solutions out there that can reduce the death toll. What if you were the one who is facing a life and death situation due to a hurricane caused by global warming? Wouldnt you had hoped someone would of stepped in earlier to reduce the severity of the storm. Its not about stopping natural disasters which are inevitable, It's about reducing the casualties.

You honestly think that human beings as a species are invincible, that we can adapt to anything? Guess what thousands of species on this planet are extinct for a reason and we humans are no exception. Tough it out?? Give that advice to the dinosaurs. Here's the thing, you are not feeling the effects of global warming so its easy for you to say that we shouldnt worry about something that no one is willing to stop. What if someone holds your family hostage at gun point and you are not able to stop it, but the authorities can? You cry for help but no one is willing to help you because no one cares about your family but you. Hey why should the authorities worry about something that doesnt concern them? Why should you worry about your family when no one is willing to stop the crisis?? Tough it out and live it. Im sure you can adapt to life without your family. Sea levels are rising, so move your house? You are saying it like its a simple solution. Well you bought that house several years ago because you like the ocean view, but due to the rising of the sea level no one wants to buy it. Well the ocean floods your house and you are left without a home. Give that advice to Katrina victims. Tell them that they should of moved their house.

My answers might be a bit scattered

    1. I don't think humans are invincible. I actually think we'll be wiped out within the next 2000 years.

    2. I don't really know how to answer that family hostage question because I don't find a correlation

    3. Sea level rising now sell sell sell your house if you have one by the ocean. Honestly they have been warned for years and they just don't care (ocean side homes have to be inspected by a geologist or geographer before purchase)

    4. To Katrina victims: Don't move back to New Orleans because it'll happen again (Yet they'll rebuilding).

    5. If I was faced with a life and death situation (And I have) I'd except either outcome because everyone has to die.

I'm not denying that global warming exist as a matter of fact I find it amazing that we're not wearing face mask everyday to protect our lungs. The fact is people just don't care. Go to China, go to Japan, go to the United States. Tell them you're shutting their power plants to help the environment. They'll start laughing like no other. Final line is this if we have a population crisis people will starve to death until the population is at a neutral level. Same for global warming.

PS: Everyone is surprised that I have this perspective regarding the global warming issue because I was previously an Environmental Studies major, but honestly all the classes tell you the exact same thing. We're #@$@# screwed. Gore is not even saying its going to happen if we don't change. He's saying we're screwed all this change is happening already.
