http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/24/opinion/24friedman.html?_r=2 excellent article... the guy is correct imo on every single one of his points If america is such an advanced first world country, why is it turning into such a rundown shithole, while the rest of the world moves into the future.
its cause of those stupid hackers screwing the freaking nation with the so called "anti-virus" programs
I agree. o.o Aren't we supposed to be the "high-tech" ones? >_>;; The subways in NY are disgusting compared to the ones in Taiwan.
LOL... Yes they are, but consider that New York's system carries a heck of a lot more people, and is one of the few that operates 24 hours a day, all 365 days a year, the wear and tear will show. Taipei Rapid Transit has only 69 stations while the NYC Subway has 468. Taipei's 18 hour only a day system opened in the mid nineties with plenty of experience taken from other functional systems (like NY's, which started in 1869), and moves about 450 million people per year. New York City's transports over 1.5 Billion a year. However, Taipei's system is cheaper, costing anywhere from USD $0.60 to $2.00, while the NYC's system is $2.00 regardless of how far you want to go. And there is no restriction on how long someone can stay in the NYC system with the price of one admission, making it the perfect system to dump the homeless (hence the disgusting appearance) So, while Taipei's may be new, shiny, and the envy of the world right now, I bet when they finally complete the first subway in Vietnam in 2013, Taipei's would be put to task eventually. Call it progress, I suppose. However, I agree with the Times article, but I'd go one step further, we don't just need a reboot, we need to format disk.
the reason why america's becoming a rundown shithole is due to it's "we're king of the world" mindset and being happy with it while the rest of the world is thinking "this place looks like shit, let's make it better" while the US is maintaining it's status quo keeping things the same, everybody else is trying to improve how their country looks and works to appeal to the rest of world and the global market so they're continually creating new things and building up to date structures to join the 21st century. so like the article's author said, we need a reboot. we gotta reset people's mindsets and get them workin or else america will get left behind and the UK and other asian countries are gonna be on top.
^ the UK is already on top in many respects lol And there are a few asian cities that in my mind as significantly better than anything in the US... singapore, hong kong and tokyo for example. The main thing that bugs me is why north america does not have a good high speed rail system. You look at Europe and you have high speed trains criss-crossing the entire country... fuck, even france has the TGV. I've often wondered whether american airline corporations have some sort of hold over the government and got a deal with them to disallow the construction of high speed rail. I suppose its also possible that the american mindset just isnt appreciative of land travel. but I know that if there was a 250 mile/hr train that could get me cheaply from where i live to calgary or toronto for a fraction of the cost of air travel, id definitely take it.
^ really....uk's public transport system suckssss.......and its ubbber slow and costs so muchy the buses and trains are so inconsistent...thas why theres so many cars on the road.....
Kill everyone off and start all over again... The quick and easy way if no one argues about it... Proud to be a Canadian... not really actually, HK rocks... -_-
yeah iv heard bad things about UK pub transport, but other european nations like Germany or Switzerland have amazingly efficient rail lines
