I loved Freakonomics, it was funny even though I think some of the application of economic theory is a bit stretching it. A few non-fiction I read which was okay, depending the subject you are interested in: Canadians Are Not Americans (Katherine Morrison) Do you speak American? (Robert MacNeil) Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies (Jared Diamond) The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason (Sam Harris) No Logo: No Space, No Choice, No Jobs (Naomi Klein) Rich Dad, Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money -- That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! (Robert T. Kiyosaki) Fastfood Nation (Eric Schlosser) Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron (Bethany McLean and Peter Elkind) God: The Failed Hypothesis. How Science Shows That God Does Not Exist (Victor J Stenger) A Short History of Nearly Everything (Bill Bryson) And newspaper? Current affairs is your best bet.
