Expiry date of survey: March 29th, 2007 I never thought i would actually have to ask research help in a forum, but there is no better place to ask than a forum full of random people. i found that the forum has the widest range of random people, so a survey can be possible. this is for a sociology research for an assignment, and i need input from random people, and compare them to the actual data given to me. if you guys can answer these 2 questions asap, it would be great! 1. Which families do you think generates more income? A family where the father is the only member working? Or a family where both parents (father and mother) work? Why? 2. Given the following situation: Here in Toronto, especially in high schools, we tend to see that those who just recently moved to America tend to have a higher GPA than those born in America. For example, a student from China, after recently moving to Toronto, seems to do much better in school than others. Now do you think the number of years living in America affect the GPA of the student? Why? Why not? i had a third question, which was age and sex before marriage.. but ill check out the "losing virginity at what age" thread THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!
1 . Shared income + Greater planning would probably lead to a better income 2. Its probably the culture and second chance at a better life so people work harder
1)this one is hard to answer, a large percent of people who have both parents working, is because they both earn so LITTLE money. but i also know alot of father only working families who dont earn that much, but for some reason the mothers still do not work but i think i'm leaning to the ones that are the sole providers i know in my family, i have seen many instances of that when the mothers stay at home, becuase the men would lose face if you were earning SOOO Much money and still had your wife go out and do a minimum wage paying job, they should be at home with the kids, or out doing volunteer jobs instead 2) because often people who have immigrated over are of those who strive for the future, to the children have been taught to work hard for there futures and is it me, or does the girl in your avatar look like a cross between Joey Yung and Jennifer Lopez
1. It really depends on what occupation the father and mother has: if on one hand they are part-time sales associates (retail) while the other case is a professor/doctor/i-banker; the latter will of course generate more income (higher salary). However, a general case, 2 sources of income is definitely better than only 1 source, specially if they are full time employment (with benefit and such). So I guess my answer, in short, is 2 working parents generate more income (I thought that would be obvious). 2. I suspect it has something to do with information assimilation -- since you talk about GPA, I assumed that you are talking about college/university education. The standard of education is in fact quite high in China -- except for of course English language -- as a result, in the beginning, the immigrant youth know more than the other local youth of the same age (leads to higher GPA), but as time goes by, the difference in knowledge between local and immigrant shrinks, the high GPA may suffer and result in an average, instead of spectacular GPA.
Hmm.. its 30th now.. am I too late? 1. I thought that was obvious too. Assuming salary is the same, doesnt more ppl = more income? unless you consider expenses like hiring baby-sitter for kids.. someone to clean the house or whatever. Makes no sense that the father will earn more if his wife doesn't work... 2. I'm not from America, so I dun have an ans for that. But I guess those who manage to move there are probably the more educated ones from their hometown, so you are comparing foreign elites to general locals.
