Is a 54 Mbps wireless connection good enough for gaming and downloading?? Will my download speed slow down alot compared to wired 100 Mbps?

54Mbps connections are fine. As long as it's a solid connection, you can game with no worries. I've seen wired connections and wireless connections in the same house playing games with no problems. Their pings were almost identical.

Your internet download speed should still be decent, but a wired connection is better for higher bandwidth demands.

i honestly doubt you have a 54Mbs broadband line, do you?

for example i have a 8Mbs line, but my wireless router is 54Mbs, so i will never reach that speed for the internet. I also have a gigabit ethernet line but i will never reach those speeds just because its a gigabit line, just depends on your internet connection speed.

Also wireless connections are horrendous for gaming! you get lag spikes all the time... if you game stick to a hard wired connections
    :)

^lol i just missed the "per" part

same thing, just cause you stick a 54Mbps adapter on, it doesnt mean youll get 54Mbps broadband connection ;)

For wireless, if it is rated at 54, that usually means approximately max of 27U/27D. Wired 100 would usually be Full Duplex, so you can get 100U/100D. If you need speed, The wireless N released by Linksys has been really stable for me. I haven't tried Netgear or DLink's version yet.

We're getting more and more fiber setups here in the state, so we have options for 50+mbps internet, but too expensive. I've got 20mbps and it cost around $40/mo

tho its at 54mbps, i still think its dependent on ur normal net connection

i got 54mbps router, tho only 11 and 22 mbps wireless cards
and the connection speed is usually only at < 50%
so its not all that great

each wall u go thru, slows it down ><

I don't think so... 54mbps is usually promoted as general usage such as surfing, chatting, etc.
