Time for that year again! Training camp coming up. First year of alignment. It was a long offseason.. but it's finally time! Lots of questions on the Leafs. Bernier or Reimer? Can Kadri prove himself again? Will Rielly make it to the big clubs? Is Clarkson worth what he is? Got Kadri at a good, bridge contract. Loving it.
goalie controversy?? Leafs will be like The Canucks last year-whistle let me get in the first troll of the year
Came out big for us. I see him stealing the job from Reimer. Our PK+Bernier saved our ass on our like. 7 Pks. Great on the penalty shot. Not sure why Kadri was benched. Good start to the season. 2-0-0! First in our franchise history to win 2 games to start the season on the road. Best wishes to Parros.
what's the early consensus between bernier and reimer for leafs fans? scrivens > quick so far this year
For me, still hard to say. I have Bernier on my fantasy team though. Bernier let in some soft goals this year, but his rebound control has been great. Reimer does have more rebounds compared to Bernier, but somehow he can keep those chances out of the net as well. If playoff starts today, I don't know who to put in. Both have been great. A great GAA and save %. Reimer leads the league in save %. I love having this duo.. you win you're in!
Bernier is said to have a higher projected ceiling, and is great positionally. He'll let in some softies, but they tend to be fluky pucks. For a short guy, he is pretty damn tall in the net. The thing about Reimer is that he fights. And he fights hard. He was meant to be in the ECHL, however has fought to hell and back to make it where he is today. Reimer's rebound control has improved immensely from last season and is a factor in Toronto's PK. I've always liked Scrivens, and saw some potential for him in Toronto. However he just never got a chance to prove himself, namely in terms of ice time, and the fact that Leafs fans didn't see him more than just either a backup, or an AHL career starter. Another factor for Scrivens' success lately (IMHO), has to do with the Kings' system working well with Scrivens' style. LA think they fleeced Toronto on the Scrivens/Frattin - Bernier trade, but I think it worked out for the both of us. It is fucking AMAZING to have 2 top ten goalies playing . Basically both are one of the main factors as to the leafs' success.
damn I regret calling him Scrubvens for all these years-lol he is Quick's successor? there is a goalie controversy? Scri>Bern check the numbers they no lie former leaf with a play of the year?? :eat:
I agree. When Scrivens was in Toronto, I never saw him more than a backup. And with the Raymond signing replacing Frattin, it was a win-win trade for both teams. Can't see us signing Raymond again for $1mil next year, but hopefully if Kulemin is resigned, then possibily we can see a Kulemin-Holland-Bolland line if Holland can be good enough to be 3C (Bolland plays wing too). I got Quick on my fantasy too. :( Bernier is like a 0.5 roster spot, splitting games with Reimer. Only got Bishop as a full time goalie.. ahaha. It sucks having Quick out. And that was a nice play. Again with the Raymond signing, we didn't need MacA. And he was a healthy scratch in the playoffs, that's when he decided to leave the Leafs.
I see more of a Raymond-Bolland-Kulemin line. Bolland's aptitute as C is much more needed and much higher defensively than Holland. Holland played solid, and served well as a stop gap. However I would throw him back in the AHL for development. As for Raymond, he's been playing well offensively and defensively, and hustles, and I would actually be okay with a $1 mil signing. We actually got him for dirt cheap. Holland could potentially be a Top 6 C, so I'd give him some time to develop. Anyway, it's great C depth for us. I love fans who think like you, with all these "what if" scenarios lol. If you recall, Steen wasn't more than a 20G scorer at the time, and we traded him for Lee Stempniak who was a powerhouse. Obviously it didn't work out for us, but given the information we knew back then, it was a good trade at the time. He never got away. He just didn't produce at the time. We got rid of him for good reason. If you had the same information at the time to make a decision, you'd have made the same deal. If not, something's wrong with you lol.
really? the blogs i've been reading thought the kings could have gotten more for bernier. i should say that kings fans didn't expect frattin to be playing this well though. for the sake of both teams, i hope bernier ends up being ELITE. i still have a soft spot for him :(
Well, it's either one of two things. 1) We grossly undervalued Scrivens, 2) Or Kings fans grossly overvalued Scrivens. You got the explanation on the Leafs side: We judged Bernier to be a goalie with an elite-level potential, a sentiment shared by Dean Lombardi. Lombardi himself was actually hesitant to pull the trigger on the trade, and only did because it was the only offer for Bernier. Bernier wanted a raise, but other than that Lombardi stated he would have kept Bernier. We always knew both Scrivens and Frattin were solid players. Either we did not recognize their ceiling, or they are currently on one hot streak. Scrivens was said by fans and analysts to be a 1B/Backup player, and Frattin to be a solid, career third liner. So given that information, on our end at the time, we felt we stole Bernier. However with their late play, I'm trying to figure out if it was a change of scenery, system, or chemistry that allowed them to flourish this much. Only time will tell if it is a streak, or which team won the trade. For now, it is great that it worked out well for both teams.
