Hey guys! I recently decided to stop sitting on my ass all the time, and do a bit of exercise. Problem is, I've hardly ever done any in my life, so I'm taking it slow atm. I'm doing 80 sit ups and 40 push ups a night, going 20 sit ups, 10 push ups, 20 sit ups, 10 push ups etc. One of my motivations is so I can feel less self-concious being so thin when I go to the beach in Summer. So my question is, with the amount I'm doing, will I be able to see any difference if I keep to this routine for 5 months? Right now, you can see my ribs very clearly, and it doesn't look good at all, and I want to get a bit of definition, not like get ripped or anything.. Should I up the amount, or is this sufficient? Extra question: what temperature water are you supposed to wash your face with? I use warm water to wet, wash and rinse my face, and then cold water afterwards because I heard it closes your pores back up after cleaning. Is this right? Or would cold water damage your skin? Thanks guys!!
80 sit ups? and 40 push ups? more like 200 crunches and 100 push ups at least. are you a girl or guy? why don't you do some eating to gain weight if your metabolism isn't shit like mine. I basically can't gain weight and im skinny but i work out so i have cuts on my arm and abs but i used to do A LOT of crunches to burn myself and now i only do like 100 cause im lazy and just maintaining what i already have. you're right about the washing face part. hot water to open pores and cold water to close pores
Uhmm, I think you're doing it wrong. If you're the skinny type, you actually try to make as little movement as you can in your exercise so you could build fat and gain muscle the same time. Thus, you should focus on dumbbells, deadlift, kettlebell and try to lift the heaviest weight that you could handle. ex: Do 3 sets of 10,8,5. Try eating 6 meals (I found this the hardest to do since I'm at school all the time), and have some type of protein in them (ex: chicken breast) Bascially, avoid doing cardio exercise, ex: jogging, running
i have the same problem kdotc. i thought i was the only one! i'm skinny and i can't gain weight, but i still work out 4/5 days a week, 30 mins a day.
What this guys said! Eat 6 meals a day and gain some weight. Seeing as your skinny and have a fast metabolism just eat more. You'll gain a little fat but that is neccessary if you want to bulk up a little and looked more ripped. Then jum on the weights. Do Squats, Deadlifts, Military Press, Bench, Chinups. Just those exercises are enough. Maybe 3 Sets of 8 or 5 depending on how heavy your are lifting. Lift every second day and you should see some good gains. Also you don't need to lifts heaps of heavy weights although that will pack more muscle onto you. Take some protein shakes after your workout as well and eat lots of protein rich foods. Have fun!
Six meals a day sux, i dont know how people do it, be a man, eat a big breakfast and eat plenty meat for dinner , dude sounds like you need to beef up.
try the protein diet. don't do cardiovascular activity. crunches won't really help if you are trying to build up from being thin. Bench and lift weights increasing by 5pounds or so every 2 weeks to a month.
it's recommended to do 30mins to an hour of exercise per day preferably with a balanced diet and mix your exercise with cardio and weights. i wash my face in luke warm water.
I'm currently trying the Insanity Deluxe workout plan. It is intense cardio / plyometrics exercises for hardcore people only. I did some of the P90X workouts and this is much tougher. Has anyone else heard or done these workouts?
^ Yup I have, I actually have the videos but I believe they're more intended for the Mesomorph and the Endomorph body type
What's the difference between the different body types? The manual says that it should be suitable for all except you have to be quite fit to do the whole program.
To Woruro or others like Woruro: If you're looking to gain weight, you need to eat more or different food (so you get more calories - if this is hard for you, consider protien shakes like Muscle Milk). This'll make you gain weight, but make sure you exercise too or else you'll just get fat. This means lifting weights AND doing cardio exercises. I know cardio is somewhat counterproductive to gaining weight, but it will help your skin (especially if you have acne) because you'll be opening up your pores when you sweat. Run for 20-30 minutes 3 times a week and I'd be surprised if your skin did NOT look better after 1 week. All appearance issues aside, most importantly you'll feel healthier. To mwho1982: Body types: ectomorph (skinny), mesomorph (ideal body builder), endomorph (fat) More useful info at: http://www.bodybuildingpro.com/bodytypeinformation.html
You need to change up your routine, your body adapts to it overtime and you will: 1) Find that you will no longer be making gains or progress depending on your goals 2) Find it very boring. Since you are about gaining definition, I think you need to add some cardio, interval sprinting if you've already established your cardio-vascular to a certain level, otherwise start with 3 mile runs at least 3 days a week, trying to finish the 3 miles as fast as possible, then increase the distance overtime. You might want to add some other more advanced bodyweight routine, because your routine can only get you so far... Search the internet for bodyweight exercises. I wouldn't recommend a book that I've been following, which has been acclaimed across the internet its called Never Gymless, its an effective book on conditioning but it also promotes weight loss, it has a no nonsense attitude and its straight to the point, so you area already learning shit as you begin. The book isn't expensive and ships very fast if you get it from the website (I'm don't think I can advertise the website here), but if you don't want to buy the book, you can join the forum, their strength and conditioning forum has a sticky called workout of the week archieve, its already got like 100+ weeks of very interesting and effective exercises. You can go to crossfit.com and browse the forums to find a PDF file called the bodyweight exercises or something like that, they have 100s of exercise routines that don't require the purchase of dumbbells and expensive equipment, but will deliever some extreme results fast. But that's only one half of the equation, the most important of all in losing weight is: GET YOUR DIET IN CHECKED! Eat healthy balanced meals and spread them over 5 meals in small proportions. As with the face wash question, Its cold water, I was told hot water opens up pores which is no no
