THE father of murdered Brit teacher Lindsay Hawker wept today after being told that Japanese police have finally nabbed her suspected killer. Oddball Tatsuya Ichihashi, 30, was seized as he tried to board a ferry from the city of Osaka to Okinawa, according to state broadcaster NHK. Fugitive Ichihashi was last week reported to have had plastic surgery to help him "vanish forever". The suspect - who has been on the run for nearly three years - splashed out on eyelid surgery, cheek implants and lip-thinning treatments after a 'Face-Off' style op less than two weeks ago. Cops in Japan released the digitally-altered image, after confirming that pre-surgery pictures of a patient at a clinic in the city of Osaka matched Ichihashi's mug-shots. The new portrait showed the 30-year-old weirdo with more Western-style eyes and a thicker-set face and jaw. It was issued as the anguished parents of Lindsay slammed Japanese police for not contacting them about the development. Lindsay, of Brandon, Coventry, was just 22 when she was murdered. She was found naked in a bathtub filled with sand. Ichihashi was arrested at the ferry port in Osaka at about 6.30pm local time on Tuesday. He was waiting for a ferry to the far south west of Japan. The suspect reportedly told cops: "I am Ichihashi." He has reportedly been working as a builder for the last year at a construction company in Osaka. It is believed he was staying in a nearby company-owned dormitory. Ichihashi covered his face with a black coat as he got on board the Shinkansen bullet train at the Shin-Osaka station in Osaka, western Japan, with cops today. The loner who collected violent porn comics, fled before the naked body of Lindsay was found in a bath tub on his balcony. He had reportedly become obsessed with the Brit, from Brandon, Warwickshire, and pestered her for English lessons. The cosmetic surgery lead was the first for years in the hunt for Ichihashi — a case that has seen many accuse the Japanese police of "ineptitude" and caused immense anguish to Lindsay's family. Advertisement Lindsay suffered extensive bruising to her arms, legs and face and her neck was broken. Her hands and feet were bound with gardening tape and her head shaved — with her hair found in Ichihashi's kitchen. Lindsay's parents and two sisters have made repeated trips to Japan to make appeals to Ichihashi to hand himself in and have spoken of their "disappointment" at the progress by Japanese police. In June this year, the reward for information leading to Ichihashi's arrest was raised to 10million yen - £67,500 - the largest ever offered in the Asian country.

um... japan has a much lower crime rate than the US, Canada,..etc. incidents like these especially against gaijins are extremely rare. actually this is only murder i heard of commited by the japanese against a foreigner.
