SOO Its really long. But basically, when you exercise more, Most people end up compensating for it by eating more or moving around less at home.

  2. what this study should do is look into the food they eat instead of letting them stay on their regular diet and exercise for nothing, the fact is in countries outside America. A person doesn't need to jog to lose weight its about food control and getting at least 30mins a day of walking which has to be on a consistant basis which would take a lil longer then say intensive cardio. 1 single Burger or 1 plate of fries and ur day of running at the gym or walking is wasted and you may have even added more then you've worked out.

  3. People who exercise to lose weight (actually fat) and stuff down more pies are just crazy and dont understand what losing weight is.

Exercise doesn't help you lose "weight" persay because it builds muscle, which weighs more than fat. Cardio certainly helps you lose fat though, as lipids are the long term energy back up that our bodies have.

I have been exercising for as long as I can remember, in vain, to try and lose weight. I still continue though cos exercise makes me feel good and I don't fall ill so easily (touch wood!). It's true what's said, it's what you eat and how much that really matters, though exercise is still important, as the saying goes, output (losing calories) has to be more than input (what we eat) before we can see weight loss. I do believe that a low-carb diet really helps but it's really so difficult to achieve and requires so much of willpower and patience. I personally know a lady who has achieved this over a 6 mth period. Of course she also hit the gym twice a day!!

actually, there is a document by the BBC about something like this except, its about how skinny people cant get fat which essentially linked to fat people finding it hard to lose weight.
if you ever wanna watch the documentary, its called: BBC.Horizon.2009.Why.Are.Thin.People.Not.Fat.
Its an amazing show, but don't watch if your the type to be jealous and just sulk, its just something interesting!

It's a pretty relevant article because it really exposed how little the notion that exercise=weight loss is researched- It's not a excuse to stop exercising down, because like it says in the article, there are other benefits from exercising like a better health.

yeah, it's very true. When you exercise you need to eat more. However exercise can make you thin when you change your diet.

yes, I agree with the article. have you seen how big the guts are of SUMOs and powerlifters? those guys would do 3 hour sessions a day and yet their body fat is about 30%+. So diet is the most important

didn't read the article but the title should be "Why exercise ALONE Won't Make You Thin"..

Exercising(cardio) helps you burn fat, while strength training builds muscle which helps boost metabolism, if you continually eat high amounts of calories all the exercise in the world won't help you.

So it's not surprising that exercise alone won't make you thin.. the more calories u eat, the more cardio you need to burn those calories..cut down on your calories and exercise more, then youll eventually lose weight..if u run for 30mins and then eat big mac combo all that cardio work has gone to waste.

I would think he's not losing weight because he's not exercising enough. The basic biological structure of the body burns through your simple sugars first - THEN begins to touch the fat that stores the energy. The fat is a reserve. The combination of healthy eating (which will lower your general calorie consumption) and rigorous exercise (that guy did like... 30 minutes. Try jogging for an hour or so...) should help you lose weight. It's simple math.

Look at cross country runners. They're all so damn skinny no matter what they eat. And it's because they run it all off and MORE.

Great! i've always supported the dieting theory vs exercising. but i would agree that exercising has a different purpose - to build muscle and enhance metabolism, and to keep us young and pretty =) i would still continue exercising for this reason

i do exercise but won't get thin also...maybe because the amount i exercise is just enough for me to maintain my weight when my diet stays the same...too bad i could not resist on nice and tasty food

  19. i only exercise coz i have irregular heart beat... and i don't lose much weight when i exercise (i don't gain any either)... to lose weight it's gotta be exercise + strict food control... now that's something i can never do lol... i love food too much >_<
