“ Upsides Before sifting through the features that will make the N97 unique, let's start by acknowledging that the N97 has everything the N96 has: HSDPA, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, Bluetooth and the growing range of Nokia Ovi content services. It also sports a 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a 3.5mm headphone jack conveniently located on the top of the handset. Now to the juicy bits. The centrepiece of this "multi-sensory" mobile phone is a 3.5-inch touchscreen with 640x360 resolution, or what Nokia describes as nHD — higher res than WQVGA but less than VGA. This is more pixels than the iPhone, but significantly lower than the res of the displays on the HTC Touch HD and the Xperia X1. Hopefully, this results in a better battery life than some of the competition, which will also be helped by the massive 1500mAh battery included with the phone. The landscape slider form factor isn't new to the Finns, its E90 Communicator featured the same profile and we liked how it was implemented into that phone when we reviewed it in late 2007. It's very difficult to tell from the early images how well designed the QWERTY keyboard is, but our opinion is that a badly designed QWERTY pad is better than the alternatives, particularly on-screen keyboards. But the big news is its 32GB of internal storage plus microSD memory card expansion. Like megapixels in cameras, storage is fast becoming the defining feature between competing smartphones, and with a possible 48GB of storage the N97 is well ahead of the pack. Downsides After reading the spec sheets from Nokia it's hard to identify areas where the N97 is lacking. We can only hope it improves on several of the major complaints about the N96, primarily its sluggish performance and its below average battery life. As mentioned above, Nokia has fitted a huge battery into the N97 — 50 per cent larger than the N96 — and is promising 36 hours of music playback. The N97 will run on the latest version of Nokia's Series 60 operating platform, a similar version we saw used on the 5800 XpressMusic. Matched with the right processor this could promise excellent performance, though under powering the N97 will prove to be very disappointing. Overall Nokia hasn't given us much to get excited about this year. Its E series handsets have been excellent, but the N series was a mixed bag of features and form factors with no standouts and nothing to compare to the allure of certain popular touchscreen smartphones. The N97 may be six months late, but it is definitely worth getting excited about. We expect to see the N97 release in Q2 2009. If pricing follows the N96, and we expect it should, don't be surprised to see outright pricing for the N97 well in excess of AU$1,000.” Source: Cnet.com.au I really want this phone =[ . I bought the n96 when it first came out but I find the N96 a useless brick. Well not useless but it lags alot and apparently you can get a refund if Nokia finds out if there was an engineering problem =P. SIGH when the N97 comes out im going to trade in my N96 in Hong Kong or something and buy a N97!
n96 or n97? if ur talking about n96 i agree if ur talking about the n97... sorta disagree cause that means the iphone is a brick... but it has its purposes
yeah but when they first brought out n98 or 96 there was some epic fail on being very slow then n98 8gb got better due to lack of reliance on external memory is the n97 going to need external memory? tbh my dad bought my mum e90 from HK n i checked it out and it wasnt that exciting, its just an office/business phone which does not look as nice as a blackberry tbh if you want a phone you might as well for cheap ones like t-mobile G1 or the side-kicks which the american teens loves so much or even an iPhone of ur in UK u can get it for free on a £45 p/m contract or a decent blackberry
looks pretty good i reckon, atm im using a nokia e66 n it sucks dunno why i bought it, im gonna buy a new fone during summer in at hk but dunno what to buy sony ecricsson or nokia again the xpressmuisc 5800 looks very tempting, also the LG arena Km900 looks awsome, but its a copy of iphone
The screen looks a bit "small" to be a touchscreen IMO. But its all silvery and shiny. I so want that phone!
lol what? there's no n98 "yet", for it doesn't even exist. I think you mean n95, then one year later they upgraded to n95 8g? I wasn't aware there was battery problems, I thought it was the slider problem thing @@? as for n97 you can add on external memory (apparently up to 16GB), but there is already 32GB internal. So whether you "need" to add on some extra juice is your choice. 3.5"... that's about the same screen size as an iphone. Unless you need this phone right now and cannot wait, then I guess you can try and get your hands on one when its available (unlocked or through your provider, though the cell providers will likely not have it this early in the release...) I would say wait a bit longer or shop elsewhere (ie other brand?)... There is major upgradings being done throughout the market right now, eg. 8mp cam, oled... etc. And I'm also pretty sure even newer and nicer products that are going to be added to the lists come Q2.. Q3... that have not been press released yet
