i think nikon is a bit better. i live with a friend who's got the canon 400D and i have the nikon D40X her canon is like.. laggy :/ we have the same lens -- 55mm to 18mm. i personally think that nikon is faster and better :] but i'm not pro or anything .. haha ^^"
^ meh thats stupid @ dann you buy something like a canon XTI or XS or XSi and it will last you forever. if your taking a photography class you'll probably have accesses to lenses and tripods and shit actually. The only people who need like Canon D40's or w/e are the real pro's who make cash off their photos

lol i might just have been looking at canadian prices thinking it's more or less the same considering the shitty economy... but there are plenty of $1000 dslr bodies.... even at USD prices.... look at the D200/D300 for example, running at $1200...
Canon 1000D or 400/450D!(same for the Nikon pendants) Wouldnt go for any of them because you will need to buy another Body a year later or so. Why dont spent a bit more for a semi pro Equipment which will last you much longer ? Since you are goin to join Photography Course you might need something better than Beginner? You dont need other lenses at the beginning, stick with the Kitlens or if you really need another buy a 35 or 50mm lens. Thats the stuff you need for a good start and you can also use it afterwards if you go bit pro
cannon makes the best SRL cameras I have seen; Xsi is 12mp and has live view for starter. it's easy to learn.
30Thousand ? What kind of Body is it ? Gold plated? With diamonds? Integreated Microwafe with GPS ? ^^ The most expensive one I know is the Canon 1Ds MK III. But its way under 30k ^^

What's up cousin? I'm in a photography class this year (first year doing it). We're using a 35mm camera lenses. Anyway, I haven't messed around with a D60 yet, but I hear the XSI is pretty good.

canon and nikon entry level cameras are all pretty good. there are few points to note when choosing your system 1) do you plan to go full into dslr? if yes should consider which system suits your needs better in the long run. if don't plan to think so far, then just check out which camera user interface you like. you will have to try them out yourself 2) budget? the body doesn't matter as much as lens. lens can last but body can't. so plan you budget properly. if budget matters, recommend to get a basic kit and just stick with it until you find that the lens are the limiting factor to your photography. be sure to take into account budget for other purchases such as dry cabinet, filters etc. 2) the canon entry level cameras are more expensive than nikon ones. 3) generally, canon has better iso than nikon, whereas nikon has better color saturation than canon (personal experience and from other users) 4) d40 & d60 can only autofocus with AF-S & AF-I lens. older AF lens can't. which means cant autofocus with really cheap but good lens like AF 50mm 1.8. enjoy shooting! dslr is the way to go.. cos its simply fun. so many settings and stuff to play with. haha. but as put across by many others, the camera is only a tool, what matters is the person behind it. so don't forget to brush up your skills as you use dslr!
