hi people, my friend and i are visiting hong kong and macau next year and would like to know if anyone can recommend the following: 1) places to eat 2) places to shop and 3) sight seeing i've heard famous tourists spots like victoria peak and disneyland.... anyone have anything else to recommend? really appreciate it. thanks!!
SIGHTSEEING Disneyland is alright. but you have to take the MTR to Sunny Bay (on the Tung Chung line) and then change trains to get to Disneyland, but you cant miss it, as there are Disney-themed MTR train there. Cant remember the line to get to Sunny bar, but its the orange line and you have to go to the direction to Tung Chung. Victoria Peak is nice, best viewed at night i think. Ocean Park, its alright. Ngong Ping 360 Cable car - Tung Chung - get out of MTR station and theres Ngong Ping 360 where you can take the cable cars to see the Buddha statues and monastery. takes about 15-20 minutes by cable car. weather was crappy when i went, no sun so it looked gloomy and like a horror film when i was travelling in the cable car. Unfortunately i didnt go to do much sightseeing when I last went to Hong Kong. all i did was eat and shop and hanged out with friends SHOPPING Definitely Mongkok for the shopping, but everywhere is good for really. in Mongkok, a famous place is Ladies Market where they sell lots of cheap stuff there and visit Langham Palace too. plenty of clothes to buy in Mongkok, well for a guy anyway, not sure about girls. Olympian City is a nice shopping mall. its huge but to get there is to get by MTR best and go to Olympia as its connected to the station. Causeway Bay is very nice to go for shopping too Think Wan Chai is quite nice for computer stuff. but for electronics like mobile phones and digital cameras then its gotta be Mongkok. FOOD Food, hmm quite a lot of places which are nice but i dont know the names. Hui Lau San - they're everywhere but you bound to visit them as Hong Kong is quite hot at times. but they are great for refreshing breaks - they're like dessert palors. it depends on what you fancy to eat but im sure they have it especially mango sago stuff but i like gwai lin gao with sai mei lo (cold dessert) hmm hmm ^^ All of the place i mentioned are accessible by MTR and its very easy to get around in MTR. For nightclubs and bars, go to Central or Tsim Tsa Tsui is good. plenty in those areas. mentioned this to someone before. hope it helps. http://www.dramasian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34473 thats all i can think of from the top of my head at the moment, i'll edit this when i can think of more later ^^ but im sure those who live in Hong Kong now will tell you more like THF20
yea agree with everything natsu said and btw ocean park is better well in my opinion anyway than disneyland in terms of rides. also, u could go to visit some of the museums in tsim tsha tsui and he also missed out repulse bay. thats quite a gd place to visit. or and i advise u to take the boat from tsim tsha tsui to central just for the experience more than anything else lol. also for electronics, sham shui po is rather gd place to get electronics if u want them cheap. but then again that depends on whether u can speak chinese and u have to be a bit more careful. if u want to stay on the safe side go to electronic stores such as fortress or broadway.
ooh ok.... thanks for the info too.... i heard you can bargain in ladies street, is that true? is dim sum available everywhere or are there specific places?
umm in Ladies Street, i dont know if you can bargain, i just browsed through it, but if they have your eye contact ~~ they will always ask go buy it. Dim Sum is pretty much everywhere in Hong Kong well as long as the resaturant look big ^^
oh yeah, does anybody know how i can get a tour of TVB? is it open to the public? my friend went there once and she managed to get a tour of TVB.... how do i go about it? thanks!
it is fun to go to jockey club, it is a big thing in HK, bet $10 dollars and scream your lungs out for your horse, it is very fun
ohhh hehehe.... so i should avoid eye contact while browsing in ladies' street eh... is abalone cheap and easy to find in hk too?
no clue, but TVB often shoot stuff out of their studios. like i managed to see them shooting a chat show in Olympian City once and saw some familiar faces from TVB
i guess you have to be there at the right place at the right time... it would be nice to see how they operate you know? seeing tvb stars doing filming in real life makes it so much more um real.... and personal...
