Hi guys, im looking to upgrade some hardware. which CPU to get ?
    these are the choices:
    Intel Core 2 Quad 9300 ($332) or Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 ($389) or AM2+ x4 QC Phenom 9850 ($299)

i read that the C2D is better for C2Q. so im abit confused. I do gaming at the same time as watching videos (multitasking.)

    so what you guys think?

heres an entire review on the Q9300 including the other other processors you mentioned, check out the benchmarks, they should help you decide

    QUAD core for the win.

ye quad cores are usually quicker than duo cores despite then adding to the same processor speed.

AMD quad core for the win? :D

  6. in all honesty, unless youre running like 9 applications, which includes photoshop, dreamweaver and firefox with 50 tabs, plus a full screen game, you dont need a quad core.

my professor's thesis was on quad cores, and he says quad cores are useless unless you use them to their full potential.

the way quads work is that they use one core for minimal processes. unless you surpass the processing power of one core, you will never reach the second, and so forth.

currently, there are no softwares that allow a quad core to use its 4 cores even for minimal processes. so its as good as a single core.

those who think quad cores are the best and say people should get them, unless you have a lot of programs running, its absolutely useless, and just a waste of money. in other words, you dont need a quad core.

    dual cores are quite enough.

fuck im still using a single core, and im fully happy with its performance.

  7. ^ I think that is a bit exaggerated lol but nonetheless the concept is the same, but the quad core is not completely useless because in the times you do need the extra processing power you will have it at your disposal, therefore you will not have to worry about your game rendering its graphics too slow or looking choppy, or losing out on quality for performance.... but yeah..... the quad core is still a good investment imo......

  8. ^ you can argue with my prof =)

anyways, i think dual core is quite enough for me.

  9. ^ im sure he knows what he trying to say and i understand the concept its just hey you open photoshop and try to use the blend tool..... shit is slow as hell LMFAO

  10. ^ ROFL yes... thats why i avoid that tool... i find other ways to get my effects.

there isn't enough software support for Qcores currently... which means the most you can do with it is run alot of applications at the same time. I'd still go for it though, the numbers show its better than the E dual core and it cost less money.

just performance/dollar wise, the intel quad core seems like the better option. Ah and don't bother with the AMD, their chips are currently way behind what intel is producing

i'm using a single core too at the mo lol. my comp is getting quite old now tbh but it still works fine so no need to upgrade.

yeh i was reading the AMD is pretty behind Intel. but i was reading the duo is doing better compare to the quad. duo overclock better and all.

depends on your application and what you want to do on the computer. You will get the best "future" protection with the quad core but lot of apps don't really support it or work it to its full potential. But dual cores are more than enough now adays since there are lots of application that will multi-thread and use its potential

get the quad 9000 series i guess....i think it has a better front side bus speed....but dunno how that works. The older version at the same price range of the newer version usually has a better clock speed though, dunno which one outweighs the other in terms of benefits.

The Quad seems best if you not gonna game heavily with it,

Just a guess, But you are getting these prices from MSY right?

  18. think of a mother board as a city and the bus as an actual bus on the road... its basically a messenger of data from one side of the city to its core lol it doesn't get any more in layman's terms as that...

overclocking a quad-core is literally quite useless ATM...... as stated above...
