i think u better get another casing for it.
that sony casing is not a good casing. It happen to before. after changing it, hdd works fine.
the store manager also told me that they change alot of these type of casing for their customer because the chip board for that casing are easily spoil.

u can try borrowing a working 2.5 hdd casing from ur friend to test it out before buying a new casing.

    good luck

    Thanks

Thanks for all the advice and stuff...

I took your advice and waited but it still never worked so I went down to a local PC shop.

Asked them how much it'd cost if they recovered the data for me and it'd cost £99.99-GBP!!

not repairing it too... so I looked for a new enclosure and it only costed £14.99.

Took it home, put in the HDD and now it works fine.. -bigclap

got all my data, work, music, series, films (etc.) back so i'm very happy now.

i do think that if ur using a small hdd, u wouldn't want to use it for extended periods anyway incase it overheats.

Oh my god...you PAID to have your data recovered? You should have asked us about it. It's a simple process.

First thing to try is plugging the harddrive directly into your computer and see if you get anything. If this works, good back up your data. If this doesn't work that means your harddrive is nearing death. Immediately try the second method.

Unplug the harddrive and slip into an anti-static bag and make sure it's water tight. Put the harddrive into the freezer for 10-30 minutes. After the freezing is done, immediately try the first step again.

try it in another computer first, if it works in other comps, its probably your usb drivers that are broken, go back a page and read Akki's post about what to do

but you can check under disk management to see if the computer can even see the thing

restart the computer, if you cant install the driver, go on to the maxtor website and install the driver for the hard drive - before pluggin it in...then plug bk in
