    Hi... the problem is:

I bought a 100GB 2.5" Hard Drive with an Enclosure from Hong Kong last year.
You put the two together and it becomes an External Hard Drive.
It is a plug and play; and connects to the computer via USB.

It's been working fine for all this time until yesterday.
While transfering some work from it to my pc, it got corrupted and now it won't be recognized on my pc.

I've tried it on 3 different computers and it still hasn't worked.

I've also tried right clicking 'My Computer' and go to 'Manage', then 'Disk Management' but the hard drive isn't there...

    Any solutions/advice??

Its got all my important work on it and needs to be recovered A.S.A.P..

Thanks in advance. (>^.^)> Michael <(^.^<)

Maybe the HDD is dead? Sounds awfully short life for a HDD though

The HDD is still running inside when connected to my computer.
I can hear the disks or something spinning and the power LED is on.

what you could do, is buy a new hdd enclosure, that should sort it out if its the electronics of the enclosure that are bust

or take the hdd outta the enclosure and directly hook it up to your pc internally

however if its the actual HDD that is broke, then your outta luck

  5. try going into device manager and uninstalling your Universal Serial Bus drivers and then click on the find devices and to have the drivers automatically reinstall themselves, see if that works..... cause it has happen that my keyboard wasn't recognized until i did that, but it doesn't explain why it wasn't working on the other computers....... if anything, try to install it directly via internal if you know how to set that up.... if not then you are shit out of luck and gotta bring it to the local computer store, and if you in the US a best buy or circuit city and cough up like a couple hundred to retrieve the data....... =\

In accordance in trying what dimsum suggested, I assume the usb ports on your machine are working?

truly i got a maxtor 400gb external hard drive the same fing happened and i just left it unplugged for a
few days and then tried it on another usb port and it worked...believe it or not..

  12. lol hey it could happen since the power from the circuits could have disappated that happen to give the HDD a "power reset" LOL i just though off the top of my head and the only thing that could remotely make any sense on how that worked......

Sorry... I forgot to mention this...

it's basically a normal laptop hard drive (2.5") put into an enclosure which gives it a USB port and plug into other computers.

Before it corrupted, there were quite alot of tvb series, films and music aswell.

I understand what people are saying about leaving a few days cause usually some of the USB drivers go funny, but if that is the case, why would it not work on other computers

however if that is the case doing what AkkiOnimusha said should solve that (however beware if your using a usb mouse or keyboard, that they will temporarily not work after uninstalling usb drivers, so get out your old ps/2 keyboard and mouse)

this is the external i got from HK:

that's a really shady enclosure... it might have overheated and died on you...

yes.. it is a laptop HDD...

not sure if it has over heated though because i don't use it much...

the longest i've plugged it in is 20 mins so i don't think that'd do much harm..
