Hi ! Anyone know about the fuel efficiency of that Mazda RX8. What i heard from my friends is this car is very high fuel consumption. Is maintaining this car expensive?

AOES owns one apparently, im sure he will post here soon.

    Mazda website says:

    EPA Mileage, City/Highway (mpg)
    (6-speed Automatic Transmission) 16/23**

    EPA Mileage, City/Highway (mpg)
    (6-speed Manual Transmission) 16/22**

Personally, iv heard people with RX8's getting about 13 mpg in city and about 20 on the highway

its a massive gas guzzler. in contrast my IS250 gets 27 mpg in city and 33 mpg highway

On launch, and about a year or so after, 12mpg...

Then they reflashed the ECU, and we started getting better mileage... no change in performance...

I'm currently averaging about 18mpg... used to get about 16mpg, my best was 20mpg... my drives are 85% highway, rest city...

In terms of maintenance, I've babied my 8... its been 2 years and i've just barely hit 22,500miles... I know plenty of people running upwards of 40k after 2 years... anyways, its mainly oil changes and tire rotations...

My personal opinion on maintaining oil on the 8, after about 1,750-2,000 miles between oil changes, add a quart of oil... then after every 2,500, change the oil... the manual says 3k, fck it... your oil won't last that long... the oil light DOES NOT turn on till you literally have no oil on your dipstick... Also, dino oil is preferred, but I'll be switching over to RP synthetics soon...

Theres an engine recall, but it only really affects people in high elevations and very VERY hot weather... usually people with auto too =/

Last but not least, the battery, spark plugs and starting coils... i've had them changed a couple of times, once was on voluntary recall, once was on mechanic error, and once was cuz the dealer was nice haha... it was all warranty work for me and i got a free car rental, so all good...

There is however an issue of flooding... rare... hasn't happened to me... it's a possibility, but very very rare... don't let the people on 8 forums scare you about this issue, as long as your engine was hot when you shut off, you're fine...

lol, well, you don't want to shut off ur the engine like 2mins after u started it... it's still pretty cool then... target time is really 15mins... but 5mins should be enuff to warm it up, but gotta make sure to rev up to 3k b4 shut off for insurance -sweat

Lol that's completely opposite to what I do. I usually sit in the car for about a minute to let the car cool down before shutting it off.

    u don't have a rotary :p

actually I do the same thing you do, but that's only after a good long drive of atleast 15mins... which is a little less than what I do daily...

  8. yeah my room mate has an rx8, he has been driving it for a few months now and still needs to learn how to shift correctly..... sitting in his car gives me a headache >___<

lol, tell him to give it a little gas while shifting up... I use a range of speed while shifting down though =/

one of the best things bout the 8 is the RPMS match the speed in 3rd and 6th... so it shouldn't be hard to do ;)

ye it does take up a lot of fuel, its very thirsty but if u live in the USA the fuel isn't that expensive there and its a pretty quick car. so it rele depends, i reckon future editions are prob gonna be better at fuel consumption though, its just mazda aren't the greatest for fuel anyway cos their engines aren't that economical, but sooner they will prob make it better.
