@ItsRobertttt Nah, I wasn't offended. I added the "and this is from experience" part so there isn't any confusion as to the source of my words. First hand experience is always better than hearsay, I feel, so I figured it may be to others, aswell.
Thanks for all ur opinions. Btw, i named vista inspirat ultimate which is a transformation pack that makes XP windows & icons look vista like, not installing vista itself. i agree that it may be the culprit taking too much RAM & may have caused the problem. Since reformatting my HDD and reinstalling XP (abt 5 days ago), there hv been no more restart probs as i have lost basically all programs. I am now using basic programs, reverted to office 2003, cut down to one security suite, using firefox as internet browser, ive partitioned my C:\ to two partitions, the original for windows & programs, the latter for files and data. I hv since learnt my lesson, and backing up all program files, data & personal files regularly. I hv even stopped DLing bt and ddl only small files to USB then copy to HDD to see how it goes so far. If ppl say bt doesnt damage HDD, the how come previously when i had the prob, it occured everytime i had uTorrent on? Is it safe for me to resume regular DLing? my fd insists BT does damage HDD and that i really should DL to an ext HDD to be safe. Some say otherwise, i dunno who to trust. What do ppl think i should do to prevent another occurence of the prob?
@pepsi ight cool cool lol =] @popazn well i have never heard that bt destroy hard drives that much... cause like i said before i torrent ALOT and the files that i torrent are huge. my friend torrents even more than me and he even leaves his computer on 24/7 just to finish the downloads too... but our computers are fine. well mines old but yea.. well you could take your friends advice... download to an external hard drive but according to your friend; bt destroys the hard drive. wouldnt that be destroying your external? and external harddrives are expensive (well depending on size) and maybe its the application. how about switching over to like bitcomet instead of using uTorrent now? lets give that a try and see what happens.
maybe utorrent wasnt the entire cause of the restarts but help push it over the edge. Are you talking about BT physically damaging your hdd or you mean corrupting data and such?
if bt physically damages the HDD then the changes are irreversible and sounds can be heard then. I think my fd means data corruption becos windows is installed on the same HDD. I hv since partitioned it, and yet to DL anything bt. i previously chose uTorrent becos it was light and takes few RAM, maybe it was a combination of many programs taking up the RAM esp the transformation pack. now my comp is much lighter & starting up faster too. the prob with BT though is that it takes too long sometimes, like overnight or days, which maybe isnt a good thing for HDDs or the Comp. paying monthly fee without dl is like giving away ur money, yet dling bt is also a risk taking habit.
I had something like this with my old computer. Solutions that I tried: 1.) Clean out your computer, make sure all the dust is gone 2.) Take the cover off to prevent overheating. Okay so the first 2 didn't really work for me, though it did make it better for a little while. Most likely your motherboard is fryed....so getting a new computer would be your best bet if this happens. But do let a computer tech guy check it out first.
psttt noodles... if his mobo is fried he would be able to smell smoke or burnt motherboard and it wouldnt boot up anymore.
Look, I was using "fried" as a general term. Just because it's "fried" doesn't mean that smoke HAS to come out of the motherboard. It can also mean that it is malfunctioning. Anyways, it happened to me. My computer simply wouldn't boot up anymore after a while. ~sigh
ffs he has solved this problem. his motherboard is not fried it was an issue with the os. he reinstalled the os and it works perfectly now. though thinking about what ur talking i had a computer which had xp on and then one day it just wouldn't boot up xp at all for no apparent reason. had to reinstall the os and the funny thing was i didn't ddl on that pc so, i say there is always the risk of ur computer going wrong. best thing to do is just backup all ur important documents.
