i got a 3rd or 2nd generation, 20 gig ipod, the classic w/o the color, or video capability. it's been around 4 years since i had it, and it broked =( but i think that's the average life expectation of an ipod anyways =/, although i wanna try and fix it, it's weird, does anyone know why when i turn it on it only shows the apple screen and a line on the bottom, followed by a folder with a "!" thing on it's lower left then shuts off? lol this sucks! T.T and when i plug it into the comp, it gets stuck on the "do not disonnect" screen and doesn't even show up on itune :(((((
awwww poor uryu...i think it's time to let go. u could try going to the apple store and ask them about it. they'll prob just tell u to buy a new one though... have u tried letting the thing run out of batteries first? then recharge it... mine is oooooooold as well and sometimes the screen freezes and i just let it run of batteries on its own and then i charge it. usually works. good luck!!!
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61003 or when the ! error comes up, try resetting the ipod and see if you can get it to bring up the normal screen by doing this 1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.) 2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
i found this thing that some1 recommended to me http://cgi.ebay.com/iPod-Broken-Har...ryZ94930QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem does anyone thing it's worth it? 20 bucks + shipping and handling to fix a run down ipod? or should get with the generation and be hip by getting a new mp3 player? i was thinking of the zen since PA advertises it so much ^^
Why not consider a new IPOD nano? There's no internal HD so no worry for mechanical breakdown plus it retains the features of a 5th gen even with it's small size.
No. You're ipod is dead :\. Happened to my 20GB a while ago. I tried formatting, resetting, updating, and even hitting, but nothing worked. Who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and find someway to fix your ipod but I suggest getting a new one. Make sure it's a flash player like the nano or creative, cause they're more reliable.
if it makes u feeel better i bought the mini at $400 and it only last 1 year or a lil over 1 year .. yet im still loyal with ipod...i don know y
open the case maybe the connector from hdd to board came loose. it happened to mine. the connector is pretty small. you can just press it in.
i don't think opening it up and fiddling with it will be the best idea unless u know what ur doing. otherwise u will just end up making it worse.
i agree with shw, i think tthere' sosmething wrong w/ the hardrdive, because the folder with "!" icon means that it's having error reading the hd, but meh w/e im tinking of doing that ebay thing, 20 bucks is way better then a 350 dollar new ipod plus, i don't like nano too little gigs -_- lol @ kdotc, wat kinda mini is 400 dollars ? ><, plus if they fial, it's money back gurantee + they pay for shipping and handling, so overall, it'll be a god investment even if it doesnt work, i hate these scrolling thing my pause button has been stuck for a year now lol so i've bene jamming it for a while suprirsed it even last this long, sand had probably gotten into it and dropped it hella time O_O
