i thougth Intel stated that the newest one could give the same perf. with less usage of power. but dont pin me down on that.
yea thats what i thought too... welll i figured it out thank you. but i have another problem now. i just finished building a computer. i pressed the power button... all fans go on but no image on the monitor... and i didnt hear the bios kick in but im not sure if it makes a noise when bios kicks in cause its the first time im booting it up... any ideas? i think its video card and i didnt install the driver yet... but i dont have an intergrated video card or any lower video card to fix it >.>
you don't need to have video drivers installed if you're building your computer for the first time. your motherboard might have problems...that happened to me when i was making mine too. everything started up, all the fans were spinning, except the screen was just black... you might want to try and see if its the mobo that has a problem, or you can try returning it saying its a defective part
They're exactly the same thing. The reason why they are labeled differently is because Intel decided to drop the whole Core 2 business. So the Core 2 Dual, Core 2 Quad will just be called Dual Core and Quad Core. This was announced a few months ago.
@BigToe LOL yea maybe i should do that @jmc power line connected to cpu? i dont think that theres a power line that can connect to the cpu.. lol and the processor im using is core 2 quad
If BIOS didn't kick in, 1 of 2 things could have happened: 1) Improper seating of the CPU. - Remove heatsink and fan, clean off old thermal compound with alcohol from cpu and heatsink. - Reseat the processor and make sure it fits snug into the socket. - Reapply fresh thermal compound and reseat heatsink. 2) Defective motherboard/ Processor.
I think core 2 quad is 2 core duals married to create a quad core and only has one bridge and quad core is true quads with the correct amount of bridges that ties the 4 cores together all around. Dunnoe.. Maybe it's just a name.
Remove everything from your motherboard except for the cpu and see if the bio beeps probably letting you know that their is no ram or a video card next try cpu with memory into the motherboard and see if the bios makes beeps letting you know that their is no video card next try to put the video card into the system with the cpu and memory and see if you get a start screen on the desktop you'll be able to tell where the problem is with your components, don't worry about the hard drive install yet you want to make sure u can boot into the bios first. soemtimes another issue is the video card isn't seeded right and can cause issues with your system. check the motherboard for any "fat" capcitors and unevenness on the top. Fat capacitors can mean that the board is bad and you should return it. Another thing is if you have an asus computer you might want to check the forum...the last asus board i had needed for me to install low clock speed ram to boot into the bios before i could install the faster clock speed ram it was a very bazar bug in their bios setting
alright im really confused.... does the beeps come from motherboard? or the tower. cause in school when im fixing the computers there i see the little speakers on the tower.... but on the computer i put together... has no speakers and it doesnt beep at all when i removed everything. so im guessing the motherboard is defective right?
^beep comes usually from a tiny speaker on the motherboard or a speaker directly connected to the mobo
If you can, test the processor on a different motherboard. If the computer won't boot into BIOS I doubt the speaker will work. Try reseating the processor first. It's the cheapest and easiest thing to try at the moment.
ahh wish i can try it on a different mobo but wrong socket... i guess ima just send back the mobo saying its defective. accidently bent 2 pins on the socket too xP dont know how though....
