The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2008 took place today, with three races spanning many sights in the area, including the Tsimshtatsui Clock Tower, Tsing Ma Bridge and the northern corridor of Hong Kong Island. Among the celebrity faces in the runners was former Hong Kong team swimming champion Alex Fong (方力申), who had swapped his trunks for his trainers as he became the first showbiz celebrity to complete the full marathon, running 42.195 km in 3 hours 52 minutes and 57 seconds. Alex's family and his manager Paco Wong (黃柏高) were in the crowd to support him and his proud father praised him for his achievement. He said that he had never run so far before, so he was suffering from a little cramping in his legs, but his mother had made him some red rice to help with his digestion. Asked if he will be taking part again next year, Alex said he would consider it, but maybe he should wait until he is 40 and just enter once every decade. After some strong comments made by Alex recently regarding the Edison Chen (陳冠希) scandal, he was asked for his thoughts on the last minute change of plans for Edison's return to Hong Kong. Alex said that he felt that Edison should face everyone and give an explanation, but this needs a lot of courage and maybe he is not ready yet. As for the rumours surfacing linking Gillian Chung (鍾欣桐) and Juno Mak (麥浚龍), Alex said that he will not interfere with other people's business, but if the stories are true, he will offer them his best wishes. -batgwa.com
