Upgrading Graphic Card

HI all, i have consider to upgrade my graphics card but i have a problem.

Because i have a built in graphic card on the motherboard, how would i install the new graphic card?

Secondly, are there any factors i need to consider when buying a new graphic card?

Im deciding to buy a 128mb or 256mb one.

well you gotta decide what you're gonna do with the upgrade card first...

1. Are you going to use it to edit videos, play games, watch HQ DVDs?

2. What kinda card does your motherboard allow? PCI-E?

3. Will your power supply be enough for the new card?

and 128-256mb are of the low end cards.. probably won't make much of a difference unless you have a really old graphics card..

AGP is your best option if you don't wanna update ur mobo so I would suggest the nvidia 7800gs AGP which is the best choice. The 7900s are bad. Avoid them.

Or you could go with a 7600gs which isn't bad at all and it has 512mb of ddr2 mem but it's only 128 bit though. Power requirement is minimal aswell which I assume should be a plus. Read the customer reviews for more info.

but no one has answer my other question earlier... the graphic card i got now is built onto the motherboard.

Do i uninstall / disable it first or do i do that after i've installed the new graphic card??

 

512mb that p3ps1c0la seems pretty gd, just get that nvidia are the best graphics card makers anyway and its prob not too pricey.

 

depending on the motherboard, if you just stick your card in, it should recognise it and output through the card. If it doesnt, youll have to go into the BIOS and disable the onboard video manually

 

If it doesnt recognise it... do i still connect the output through the new card, and go into the BIOS to disable it?

 

also depends on your mobo...some mobo will output video to both sources and you plug the monitor into it and you can work with either one.

I would personally disable the on board one from your bios, because it will free up resources from your system as onboard memory has to be allocated from your RAM. The less ram you have the slower things will run on your computer...especially if your upping the video card to play games..more ram for video games is a big plus
