there's no such thing as "toning" a muscle or an area of ur body... ur absolutely right, if u lose weight u'll reduce ur size, but firming up an area means u gained muscle or u lost even more weight... u can't turn fat into muscle and u can't make fat firmer... think of it this way... u'll never find a guy who's got a washboard stomach and man boobs unless there's some sort illness or he got silicone...

which athelete's look "toned"(i'm assuming lean) to you? Runners, bikers, tennis players, soccer players, just about everyone who does a lot of cardio activities... all these athletes train different parts of their bodies for their specific sports, but they look about the same physically because they usually have low body fat percentage from all the cardio they do...

I am not claiming that fat can be turned into muscle. But I believe that each sport has their own typical body shape, some are more trained in the upper body, others are overall lean (those are usually the running/marathon/triathlon people), I remember two Olympics back, an athlete (forgot who) said that her team's pass-time in the village was to guess what sport a particular person plays from their body shape. If all sportsman has similar body shape, it wouldn't be possible now would it?

Then of course I am not saying a sportsman is going to be sporting a beer belly, but there are just different types of lean where different areas of the body is more developed/trained.

i'm not saying all athletes mentioned sport the same types of bodies, i'm saying they're all similar in terms of how they look compared to say a contestant for Mr. Olympia... and yes u can train different parts of ur body, u could have a buff upper body and a skinny lower body from only working out ur upper body and ignoring ur lower body... but that's all about MUSCLE... u can't do the same thing for fat...

I don't get it... But okay -sweat

Let's just say it's not about reducing a particular area, but overall slimming with emphasis on particular parts? Because seriously, any kind of (significant) weight loss would means overall slimming no matter what...

No, you can't do the same thing for fat, but with exercising, you lose fat! At the end of the day, you tone your muscles and you lose fat at the same time. And you can work out on certain areas, definitely. Like if you're doing crunches only, you can't expect your biceps to be toned, can you?

sit-ups, crunches only builds the muscle in that area (the 8 packs) but the fat will remain there, only way to burn that fat is the cardio through long and steady training, like running, long long biking, etc. swimming, i heard might reduce that waist, i heard basketball and tennis helps too cuz of all the cardio, and last but not least, a healthy balanced diet so that excess fat don't build up while ur working out, otherwise itll be pointless :x
