Wednesday December 19, 2007 Hong Kong TVB #1 Sister Spot Vacant, Sonija Kwok Will Not Renew TVB Contract Hong Kong TVB fa dan Sonija Kwok is currently in Shanghai filming a mainland production called “The Legend of Eight Gods”. In this series, Sonija will be playing one of the eight gods, she was dressed in a pink colored ancient costume when reporters visited her onset yesterday. The filming company revealed, Sonija’s fee for this series is between HKD$60,000 - $80,000 per episode, this is more than twice the amount she is paid when filming for TVB. It appears that Sonija is not interested in competing for the TVB #1 sister spot, instead she is concentrating on making some real cash from the mainland market. Sonija said: “To tell the truth, the salary I get paid from filming a mainland series is much higher than what I get from filming TVB series. Plus, when I am filming here, I can really concentrate without worrying about the media writing bad reports about me.” It is certainly true that every time Sonija films a series, there will be rumors with her male co-stars, for example Joe Ma, Steven Ma, etc, because of the ongoing rumors, Sonija has been given a very bad name. The current TVB #1 sister Gigi Lai has announced she will not be filming next year, hence the #1 sister spot has become vacant, there is fierce competition amongst the other actresses to claim the top spot. Asked if Sonija will join the competition to replace Gigi as #1 sister, Sonija answered: “I just want to concentrate on filming, don’t want to think too much about other things.” She also said that she has no interest in becoming TVB #1 sister because next year, her contract with TVB will end. Wonder why TVB is now reluctant to pay more to hold the talents.. They had spent money bringing them to fame and then, they would just relieve them of contract..

I totally think she make a great choice to go elsewhere. TVB not good for career advancement and salary low. Go there be famous and run that the best thing to do.
i don't think Sonija is a good actress. Her performances are exagerated. I don't think she is fit to hold leading roles. I don't think that Gigi should be the number one sister either. There are other actresses that are way better. I think TVB is really stupid because they like drive away their best actresses. Example KENIX KWOK!!!
I never really fancied Sonija...somehow she strikes me as pretty stiff. What a pity Gigi had to step down.
wowz. i don't really like people who act just for money =( Seems like she just used TVB to get famous and now when she thinks she's too good for it or thinks that just because she can't be the best, she leaves to somewhere else so that she can make more money. Soo sad won't b able to watch her anymore...=/
TVB's losing all their talented people.. Ada's getting married (marriage might just pull her away), Gigi taking a break (how long of a break?) and now Sonjia not renewing her contract. i'll definitely miss Sonija :(
this kind of sucks...not seeing sonija anymore in tvb...but i guess she made the right choice...earn more money while ur young
sonija is alright but she can't really act tough lady roles... dun think gigi great as well... she's like a crazy person when she start to yell & scream...
it's good her i guess to make more money when you still have market value. but i will miss seeing her in tvb series. i thing i watch china/taiwan series too, so i will still get to watch her act.
human nature ... something management need to understand. don't talk about loyalty .. talk about $$ with your employees.
