    Hey everyone.

Yah well im about to graduate soon and i still havent decided on my third major. My Major is in Econometrics, Info System and my third one is either corporate finance or investment finance.

The thing is i want to become and investment banker and the only offer comes to me is in my investment finance major. HOWEVER!!! There are 2 "streams"

There is the trading stream which involves trading on the securities market and the

Derivitatives stream. However i cant do the deriv. side cause i didnt do calc in highschool.

The alternative major is corporate finance but the units on that major is b!tch hard to do.

I want to do investment banking but im not too sure what it is. The university tells me to do derivs if i want a career in investment banking but yet the net tells me it is buying and selling of securities. Argh this is making my head spin.

Anyways wat do u guys recommend? Incase u guys are wondering yes im doing 3 majors and im not dropping anything. :)

i take it ur doing commerce? or business??

can u really do 3 majors? is there enuff credits to do it? cos i remember wen i was in uni (well not applicable for my course), u needed x completed units for each major, and u couldn't double dip (ie count a course to both/all majors)

but neway... back to the orig problem
investment banking... if thats what u really want to do
since ur graduating soon (how long to go?) u should be doing the summer vacation internships
they help u get a grad position (if u perform well)

the majority of IBs i know have done commerce/law (in syd neway)
and theres the few who've done no finance or commerce whatsoever...

so i don't think it really matters what u have done
its a matter of what u can show on paper (so u don't get screened out on application) and how u prsent urself at hte interviews.

plus whats the main reason u want to do IB?
the money? all the IBs i know kinda haf no life lolz
working about 100 hrs a week

in terms of $$ per hour, its not great, but where else would be u able to earn 100k+ with a bonus of 100k+ every year...

alternatives is u can work in accounting firms / local banks doing analysis work, or fund managements. not as great pay,. but similar work in a smaller scale so to speak

  3. 3 FREAKING MAJORS?!?!?!

im just hustling over 2 atm... and pissing how another university in toronto (york) gets to graduate with one major...

    damn man.... 3.....

    nah lol.

Funnily, enough im doing a Bahlor of Economics .

I got into uwa with econs but i undertook my majors in info sys and fnance. however the finance lecturer screwed me over and my weighted average mark is below 65 which i need for consideration to transfer to a Bachelor of Commerce.

Do you think it matters whether its bachelor of econs or bachelor of economics?

But yah, i want to be an Ib because:

1)i can get the heck out of australia and work abroad most preferably japan.
    2)I like financial markets
3)And yep, the biiiiig pay check baby!!!!

but could u give me a more definite answer to what is Investment banking?

    what the hell?
your almost done and your picking another major now???

and why in the world are you becoming something inwhich u donteven know what it is
investment banking is CRAZY stuff, and u need to be CRAzY good at it or u can get into deep shit
investment banking - playing with stocks, loans, (situation where money can go up or down at any instance, so basically professional gambling)

if your on your way to getting three degrees, why are you on PA asking people what Invenstment banking is, why not go and do your own research, not just get the opinions of random online people, you could go to a bank manager and ask, or your professors, or professional sites
not a group of people who like to discuss music and whatnot, many who are still in high school
and people who can tell you that "Investment Banking is a place where you go to met Britney Spears"

lol im only in second year and il be happy to just get my bachelors of administration in international business.

if you are in 3rd or 4th year and you already have tons of econ classes under your belt, just get your economics degree then pursue additional education after you have that done.

there is nothing wrong with a simple economics degree, it sounds like all your trying to do is add some crazy shit after it to make yourself sound more appealing to employers; 'econometrics' and whatnot. I would honestly just focus on a single major and perhaps a minor and then pursue a masters in that field afterwards.

dear lord calm down!!!!!!!!! I know IB is very risky and its unpredictable and i touched on that when i did some intro to finance.

I have a clear idea what it is but the uni is telling me otherwise. IB is about buying and selling securities but the uni say it is more on derivatives. Ugh...

Either way in IB doing econometrics should help me reduce the risk on investment....or i could ask someone to do insider trading for me ;) -dead lol!!!

yah i was more leaning to change from bachelor of econs to commerce but the stupid lecturer screwed me up in one of my finance units and so an average of 72 fell all the way to 58....:( Guess im stuck with it for now.

I still have 2 yrs left. God...i just wanna finish.
