Sunday October 21, 2007 Hong Kong TV series are entering into the new era of High Definition. Due to the high screen details, artistes who are experiencing skin problems like Linda Chung, Shirley Yeung and Kenneth Ma are anxiously finding countermeasure to avoid revealing their 'true colors' onscreen. To coordinate with the new image of High Definition TV station end of this year, TVB have started to film their series using HD technology. The artistes normally have to work day and night, therefore skin problems can easily arise. In the past they can camouflage it under thick makeup, but now it will be more obvious under HD lens. The artistes are panicky because of this. Linda Chung who is filming two grand production series was one of the victims. She admitted that she's having skin breakout due to hormone imbalance. "Actually my pimples are small but numerous. Because HD is very clear it is very difficult to hide them, therefore I'll just try my best to act out my role. I will listen to the opinion of make-up artist, put on lighter make up, only cover up the area that have spots and learning more make up techniques." As for Shirley Yeung who experience break out frequently, she have 3 rescue tactics: "I can't worry too much, because the worried I am, the more spots I'll grow! I'm frequently using Chinese medicine and drinking soups prepared by my mum. Even if I'm busy, I will make sure to apply mask before going to bed every night." Vanity is not limited to ladies only, Kenneth Ma who have acne scars realized the potential problem and started visiting facial salon months earlier. Charmaine Sheh and Fala Chan not worried On the other hand, the smooth skinned Charmaine Sheh face HD era with ease and calmly replied: "I regularly do facials, but the most important thing is the company's skilled camera lighting techniques." As for Fala Chan, she is also not anxious: "I'm still young, so I don't need to feel anxious. However, the company has instructed me to apply a thin layer of foundation, including the neck as well." credits: idlemindsehseh.
DUDE, Americans dont care about what they feel or look but chinese people they want everything to be impervious. Anyway, is about time TVB is heading to HD. Hmm, i heard that by the end of 2009 or 2010, old tv will not going to function. SO, consumers have to buy the new HD tv to in order to watch television.
HD is gonna be harsh on girls... for the guys that play the rugged manly roles seeing more detail might just enhance them. But for girls and boy-ish guys it'll kill'm >.< i actually don't like HD if it means i'm gonna be distracted from the actual film because a pimple appears and disappears scene after scene.
i'm sure u won't, to be perfectly honest there isn't that a big difference that u will see. everything will just be slightly sharper and a lil bit clearer thats all. besides i rele couldn't care if it was clearer cos to me as long as i can see it then its fine, its then about the show itself rather than how clear the viewing experience is. if a show is rubbish im not gonna be like this show is excellent look how clear their pimples are lol.
yeah, i'm sure it'll be fine (for them) and unnoticeable unless it's a big, red, unaddressed pimple that distracts. there are many actors who have one or two pimples pop up in the midst of a series and although it is noticeable, with the make up covering it, it is not as distracting.
Yeaps~~ most of the western series had gone HD.. Its good for TVB to start bucking to produce better quality video... Cant wait for it~~!!
Uggh, sorry but, HD for Drama doesn't matter. I can understand HD for sports, scenery, discovery channel, but for DRAMA? Not really necessary. We watch it for the story, and people. But it's not like it matters for the complexion. Plus most of us watch it on RMVB so no matter hahaha..
under HD TV, u can tell that those so-call beautiful girls are actually not as pretty as u think they are. but come-on~u cannot help it
lol, this could also be a big goof in the series, very often i notice in one scene this artist had a pimple visible on the chin and the next scene the pimple has mysteriously vanished!... I found this amusing then!..
I don't think it's a big problem. People watch for the storyline, not to count how many pimples or scars the actors/actresses have on their faces. Lol
I think once people hve started watching a few hd content, they will not want to go back on standard def contents. Like myself, I have been watching tv rips of series for sometime now and have recently started watching blu ray films and I'm just totally hookd on the hd stuff! Just cant get enough. Hopefully we will be getting HD quality series to download soon, cnt wait!
Well, it doesn't really matter to me since I see the pimples on regular TV even with the makeup they put on. And besides, unless you have a huge screen, you're not really going to see much more of the "imperfections" on their faces. And, like some others said, there's really no need for HD for regular TV dramas where you watch it for the acting and story, not really for how people look!
