Andy's new album cover photograph plagiarize German photographer?

Heavenly King Andy Lau released his latest Mandarin album A Miracle World recently, the album sleeve specially used a fairy tale theme. According to reports, the photograph used is almost 100% similar to German photographer Loretta Lux's The Red Ball No. 1 in 2000, it makes one wonder if Andy plagiarize from him.

In Loretta's The Red Ball No.1, a boy wearing a short sleeve shirt raise both of his hands, as though he's a magician to make 2 red balls in mid-air. Meanwhile, Andy was also having the similar magician pose whereas the 2 balls are larger, it's the same idea.

Loretta used children as models in most of his photographs, using imaginary ways to show the children's imaginary world, surprisingly it's the same miracle world theme of Andy's album, this make one suspect that Andy's album is plagiarizing from Loretta's idea.

Why am I not surprised... Even the expressionless face is the same... =_=b Can't they be at least a bit creative and not blatantly plagiarise others?

But I always thought that Loretta Lux is a painter instead of a photographer... Probably just surprised to see the expressionless face of children to be captured on film... I adore her work, so devoid of emotion, so freakishly surreal...

    The Red Ball:

My absolute favourite (first one on the left), probably because of the hand and the texture of the hair...

Well, there's always the oh-so-original creative team behind every single artist...

  5. exactly knowing how busy andy lau is with films and all.. i doubt he has time to think of his own album covers...it's his marketing/design team thats at fault here.

Naw, they are just going to release a 2nd edition with a different cover... Then the 1st edition will become collector's item -tongue2

But in all likelihood, they are just going to treat it as a "bad publicity is better than no publicity" and since it's unlikely that the Loretta Lux (and/or her rep/agent) is going to sue some random Hong Kong agency... -unsure

Man.. so many plagarism articles.... There's Joey Yung's Star ballet style dress, than some other old famous lady also had a dress with stars after Joey's incident, than Andy's new album cover.. sigh.. what's going on here... this isn't good for HK entertainment's image.... also for us asians too in general..... makes ppl think that we like to copy others without permission....

The cover looks exactly the same. I guess that someone in his management agency will have to take responsibility for this error. How stupidity they are. Given that Andy Lau is quite well known, this plagiarize will be found out sooner or later

I am sure that Andy had no intention to plagarise another artists' work because he always respects others' work. However, his production team should have done more research before using this as the front cover. I mean, it would not have been so serious if it was not a front cover.

I am sure the record company can find a scapegoat for this...

If one wishes to plagiarize (and not get caught), better plagiarize someone who is really unknown. The chances of getting away with plagiarizing is much higher... Loretta Lux is an internationally known artist (her work had been included in famed collections around the world including San Francisco MoMA and Guggenheim) I've read articles about her in a few Hong Kong based magazines, so she really isn't THAT obscure an artist... Bad move in general in plagiarizing, but worse choice of subject.

WHAT?! -shock Are you implying that it would have been okay and right if this photo, which is totally a rip off of another aritist's work, had been in the album booklet or back cover? I am shock to hear that, to say the least.

yes its very similar as everyone have pointed out. But is it Andy that's personally responsible for it? It might be but I think the photographer or the record label marketing team are the more likely culprits.
