I have spots on my sclera (the white of our eyes) not big spots, because obviously, you'd see em in my avatar then..I have multiple small spots ranging from red-brown to blue, black, and grayish-blue. I took some close-up pics of my eyes with the intention of posting it, so that you could see an example of what it looks like, but I couldn't see the spots too well at all in em.. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else has these spots. I know its genetic, because my mum has em too, but why do we have it? I'm not sure.. My assumption atm is because my fam is mixed. I tried to do some research on em, but I couldn't find out too much about it except that I found out the name for this, which is as mentioned above, Scleral Melanocytosis. So if you by any chance, know anything about it, please let me know.-blush
Wait!. I searched up for it too and found this ^.^ http://jpma.org.pk/JPMA/02feb05/PDF/fulltex4.pdf Kinda long though. But, if your really want to know you should look.Hope this helps.>.<
Hm, correct me if I'm wrong...but that article is about skin diseases... Scleral Melanocytosis has to do with the eyes and its not a disease. Thank you though. =)
i think it's the side effects from being strike by lightning twice and having a black toe; something about blood circulation got stuck on the black toe and clot right by your eye balls. AND YES! i know you are going to kick me out of this thread too.
@freedomriders: I knew that its harmless, some of my spots, I've had all my life.. You have one. Is yours genetic too? @ab289: I think you need a knock in your head.
Ok .. to prove I'm nice and do not deserve a knock on my head, I found this: Scleral melanocytosis, a congenital melanocytic hyperpigmentaion of the sclera, is a common characteristic of Oriental and black individuals. It may occur by itself or in association with oculodermal melanocytosis (nevus of Ota). -Provided by Dr. Alexander K.C. Leung and Dr. Alexander G. Leong, Calgary, Alberta- Canadian doctors ... can you trust them? EDIT: Oculodermal melanocytosis (ODM) is a congenital melanocytic hyperpigmentation of the face and ocular tissue. So I'm going to guess it's hyperpigmentation in your eye balls. As to what causes it? Like all hyperpigmentation, it's the side effects of being struck by lightning
hyperpigmentation... "Darkening of the skin, commonly produced by ultraviolet radiation, which provokes melanocytes in the skin." "excess skin pigment or color caused by high venous pressure forcing blood cells to leak from small veins under the skin." so i guess u got struck by lightning to your head =P
Why is everyone talking about skin?? lol I plainly said EYES... Not skin, not any other body member but the eyes, please learn how to read a post before you reply.
Hmm ... compared with the samples in this article, your case is nothing http://www.aao.org/publications/eyenet/200703/am_rounds.cfm?RenderForPrint=1& And I don't think that the treatment is not applicable for you Treatment Patients generally should be screened for hyperpigmentation after one year of minocycline use. Hyperpigmentation of skin or sclera is an indication to discontinue the drug due to the permanent staining potential and the unknown effects on thyroid and other mucosal surfaces.4
I dont want to take em away lol I like em, just wanted to find out why I have em. Genetics was a good enough answer that I already knew..Guess this thread was a waste of space.. Thank you MavM.D lol you kinda cheered me up lol I'm glad my eyes dont look like that woman's...>.<
No, it is not waste of space. It is very brave to share some "imperfections" Although I don't see it as imperfections But personality
T.T ....MavM.D!!!!!-hug not to sound like a 100% nerd but on my left eye I have a cluster of 3 spots, and it forms the shape of a triangle lol I think thats so ku...
sorry reno. i was just messing with SugaCutie when i said left that comment. @SugaCutie: i know it's your eyeballs; but those dots are merely hyperpigmentation on your eyeballs rather than on your skin!
