My family is looking for a nice vacation spot this summer and I am just wondering what are some nice places people would recommend us staying for 2-3 weeks? What are some must-visit countries or cities? Places that have any of the below will be nice -Nice scenery -Good food -(cheap) Shopping -Fun night life We don't really care much about the beach, but if anyone has any really nice suggestions, then I will take it into consideration. And what are some places you have visited and liked or disliked? What are some places you'd like to visit? Thanks in advance.
I would have suggested New York, I loved it when I visited there last summer. Thought of course it is EXTREMELY expensive relative to many other destinations. Otherwise, Vancouver, Montreal? Those should be cheaper.
New York can be decently inexpensive if you backpack, but I guess that doesn't count as a "vacation" huh?
I want to visit New York too, cause I heard some friends of mine have been there, and they said it is a very fun place & the shops are great.
I LOVED the museums there since I am too much of a poor student to do any shopping :( I was on a shoestring budget there. But it has got the most authentic Japanese food in the cheap eats near NYU (outside of Japan, of course)!!! I miss NYC :(
I have been in many places, but not all fits your requirements. New York (the big apple, the never sleeping city) is great, but it is a very busy and shopping in NYC is not recommended unless you are backupped by lots of credit cards or Franklins. If you need to shop go to the other side of the Hudson River, Jersey City. There you can get the same stuff, but the tax is much lower than in NYC. You can visit Ground Zero, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, etc. San Francisco This is a very nice city, you can shop as in NYC and I notice that the folk on the west coast are much friendlier than the eastern folk. You visit the Golden Gate Bridge, the Fishermans Wharf, Alcatraz. If you are there you must try the cable tram. Nearby places to visit are: Yosemite National Park, etc. Sydney This city is cheaper than the above mentioned ones. Here you can visit: The Sydney Opera Building, The Rock, Bondy Beach, The Sydney Harbour Bridge. Blue Mountains
I hope to go to Sydney next time I stay in Hong Kong -- Canada is SO far away from Australia! But I personally didn't like SF that much, thinigs are too expensive and most restaurant is not worth it =_=b Though of course it has got more natural expedition option than New York. But if you DO visit San Francisco, make sure you try the Sundae at Ghirardelli! It is huge and heavenly And the chowder at San Luis Obispo (like 2 hrs drive from San Francisco -- town of Cal Tech)
If you want to visit Asia you can use Hong Kong or Singapore as base camp to visit other countries. It is usually much cheaper to book locally. From HK or SG you can go to: Tokyo, Bangkok, Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul. I have been in all those cities and every city has her charms
If you plan to go to Sydney don't fly over the route over the Pacific, like I did ... you will loose one whole day :(
VERY TRUE. Though my family, being the hippie they are (or used to be), goes to many places backpacking (when I was younger) -- consider backpacking with 2 children! I adore Hong Kong, since it's my home town, Osaka (great scenary and food and love the rural parts), Bangkok (you get to go to the beach and live in huts like 10m from the shoreline!), Seoul (good food~), Shanghai was quite overrated to me. :( I'll keep that in mind~ Thanks BTW, those news you post, did you translate them yourself???
You can go to New York and be able to get to all the tourist places via public transportation easily.
Hmmm don't travel often, but one place I remember going to is Montreal. I'd love to travel the world... China, Hong Kong, Japan, everywhere. lol.
