pretty much went the way i expected, the departed for best pic looks like it was the safe bet with the voters, the only kinda surprising ones were: -foreign film not going to pan labyrinth -cars not winning best animated -listen from dreamsgirls losing to the song from inconvenient truth
I was SO disappointed by "The Departed" winning best picture -- didn't like it one bit despite the star-studded cast -- Scoresese can do SO MUCH better. I kept on hoping that "Babel" and "The Queen" or even being the dark horse this year :( And best adapted screenplay? Pluh-ease, I don't see much of "adaptation" but a hell lot of "translation" from Chinese to English in "The departed". *sigh* Of course, Mirren-Whitaker-Hudson is totally predictable, but I found Arkin winning best supporting instead of Eddie Murphy -- afterall, Murphy was pretty acclaimed if the previous award shows are any indication. I was really glad that "The Lives of Others" won best foreign, although I was also hoping "Pan's Labyrinth" will win but I think I am more emotionally attached to "The Lives of Others" as I have seen it in Toronto Film Fest and the performance was spectacular -- for once, some justice is done with "Pan's Labyrinth" winning a few of the technical awards, seeing that it was such a beautiful film. I was kind of surprised that "Happy Feet" won best animated in place of "Cars" but who knows, it's been a while since I stopped watching animated films now. I also found it kind of funny that they need to give something to Clint Eastwood's two war films: best sound editing for "Letters from Iwo Jima"?! Another laughing stock was "Marie Antoinette" -- the film was so empty that it got honoured for its emptiness! Here's a best costume design for you, Sofia -- where's the next "Lost in Translation"?
The Departed so shouldn't have won Best Picture. ughh i was so pissed off when i heard it. = ='' i'm glad Helen Mirren won for Best Actress, because i've herad a lot of praises about the movie, and that she did a wonderful job. imma hafta watch that. Alan Arkin was hilarious, so i'm quite happy he won Best Supporting Actor. OMG, Jennifer Hudson winning Best Supporting Actress was amazing. totally kicked Fantasia's ass there. the costumes in Marie Antoinette were.. omg they were gorgeous, so that was a good call.
whats with hatred for the departed, as remakes goes its about a mile ahead of all the other remakes out there, its obviously not as good as the original either way its a more worthy winner than last year when academy voters chicken'd out of going for brokebeck mountain
I was also disappointed with the Departed winning for Best Picture. It was a decent movie on its own, but the original was in my opinion miles ahead of this adaptation. I would have voted for The Queen even though I havent seen the movie. Babel was not that great of a movie to even be considered a nomination. It was similar to Crash, but the pieces just didnt fall in as neatly.
Dream Girls was overrated.there was Too much singing. The face on Eddie Murphy as they revealed the results was priceless. They were suppose to be this grand winner or something but things didn't turn out the way they wanted. and the Departed wasn't that good to win best picture. Comeone the only thing I liked about the movie was the Boston scenery.
i knew departed was going to win thats why i didnt watch it.... damn whites stealing our movies and making fortunes off it...and i heard they called it a japanese remake? like wtf mang....give respect to the originators =S
I tried, just to see if I can endure the entire thing (for once) but failed miserably. But Ellen D was funny though. So much better than Jon Stewart.
Yeah, and it's funny when you see those acceptance speech cut short by the piano music slowly creeping in.
meh...hell...when i win my oscar my speech will be an hour long..and i will incorporate the piano playing into my speech...hah.a...

I echo all the negative views on The Departed for winning the Oscar and my bet for the category Best Foreign Film was Pan's Labyrinth. Rest of it is too predictable. BTW peeps, they just cut you off, shut your microphone, drag you off stage and or direct the camera's on other things if you try to hold a speech longer than a few minutes (forgot what the exact time was)
