push-ups don't really use the biceps... just pecs and some triceps
like kdotc said, go to the gym, then get a trainer, and he'll write a program for you

Arm curls with dumbbells are good. Around 15-20 reps and 3 sets should be good. Doing that 3-5 times a week would be sufficient, don't overdo it though, you might get stretch marks!

  6. exactly what he says that will work u need dumb bells and push up builds chest i think

start lifting barbells and dumbells if push-ups isn't enough....

  9. That sounds right. To build size you do fewer reps with heavier weights. If you're using the right weights you should only be able to do 5 or so reps before your muscles fail. Do 2-3 sets and use heavier dumbbells as you get stronger.

get a curl up bar.. and put some weights on it do 2-4sets of 10-15reps three times a week is enough..bc you need to rest and dont want to over do it... push up helps ..using heavier doesnt necessary get you stronger but you would have to work your way up.. heavier weight = fewer reps and that does not mean you should rush to get it over with.. read up online there are tons of articles on body building.. jus my 2cent

push ups will do nothing for biceps, they work the triceps and chest muscles

if you want to get bigger biceps, get some dumbells and do like 3 reps of 10-15 sets of a weight that will fatigue your muscles

Remember to give your muscles a break so do weights on biceps one day, do another muscle group on the next day (or take a break)

oh and most importantly, change the weights regularly, if your muscles get use to a certain weight, they wont grow

eat plenty of protein and have a good diet, no good doing weights then throwing it all away by eating junk

Jack up the weight and lower your reps

Let an amateur bodybuilder give you some advice.

As people have already mentioned, push ups do not build biceps. They largely work out the triceps and pectorials, and the shoulders and forearms to a small extent.

If you want to build muscle, the worst thing you can do is body calisthenics... that is, working out with your own body weight. If you want a good full-body workout, try performing the Hindu push up or dive bomber (Google them).

I suggest you go out and buy some weights. Here are the increments I suggest you buy in:
    15 lb
    25 lb
    35 lb
Chances are, unless you're a monster, you won't even be getting to the 35 lb within a year if you're having ANY trouble with the 15 lb'er. A single $15 dumbbell runs you about $10, with an additional dollar every additional pound.

Once you've got a dumbbell, you need to do bicep curls.
The correct way to do these is as follows:
    1. Sit down. Do not stand up. Standing up makes you lean back and forth and shifts the weight, making your arm do less work than it should.
    2. Do one arm at a time. Doing both arms together makes you sway.
    3. Put the non-active arm behind your back, palm outwards. Keep your back straight and your neck extended. You should feel a good, stretching feeling in your back.
    4. Hold the dumbbell in your hand parallel to the ground. A lot of people like use their wrist to hold the dumbbell perpendicular to the ground when returning to resting position. Do not do this; this puts unnecessary strain on the wrist and lessens the workload.
    5. Perform 5 sets of 5 repetitions every day. Vary your workload accordingly.

  14. Yo, I've been on the Providence program for less than a week and now my biceps are as about as big as a bowling ball!

you need to up your protein intake too. Maybe a protein shake every time to work out.

if all you want are bigger biceps...
just do a billion bicep curls with dumbells
or just until you can't lift the weight anymore

or just follow the post by providence since it's so detailed

No, you don't. If you're eating an average meal, you're getting enough protein. Unless you're a hardcore bodybuilder or exerciser, or don't eat any meat at all, almost all additional protein you take from shakes will turn into fat. Not only that, but it will give you liver problems.

Yeah, that's why I said vary accordingly.
5 sets of 5 is a very basic, proven workout though.

It also depends on his diet, but since we don't know I suggested protein. For all we know he could be a vegan. If you want to build some muscles it's recommended that you take 1.5g of protein per pound. For body builders it's a little more. For instance, 140lbs would be 210 grams of protein a day. A normal protein shake has 20g and a chicken breast has 20g. I don't think anyone would eat 10 chicken breast a day. We usually eat less protein anyway so taking a protein shake everyday won't do any damage. You'll actually notice the difference in two weeks. Even if you lift like hell, your biceps wont grow unless you have the necessary nutrient. More importantly, why just your biceps? I think you should focus on your chest more. The biceps will come when you try to build a chest. Maybe it's just me but building the chest is the most difficult part and the arms came as a by product.
