It seems that Jackie Chan's wish to join the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been met with mixed reactions from fans and haters alike. The action star, who joined a symposium organised by the China Film Association in Beijing last week, expressed that he is always proud of being Chinese and envious of those who are members of the CCP. "I think the Communist Party is just great, what the Communist Party says, what they promised, will always be delivered within a few decades," he said. "I want to be a Communist Party member, thank you." While his declaration was met with a thunderous applause at the event, those who read reports about it were not very pleased. Some netizens on Weibo expressed concerns over having Jackie as a member of CCP, saying that the actor doesn't actually have a very moralistic background - having been involved with another woman (Elaine Ng) during his marriage to Taiwanese actress Joan Lin. He has a daughter named Etta with Elaine. Etta is now married to a female spouse. His son Jaycee Chan had previously been jailed for drug-related offences. On the other hand, Jackie's international fans were furious over his declaration, as they felt that it was just hypocrisy of an actor who just wants to promote his films in China. It is noted that this is not the first time that the "Police Story" star has expressed his support for CCP, having previously spoken out about the Hong Kong protests and calling them "sad". Anyone surprised? I mean, he's just following whichever way the wind blows. That's how he stays relevant and keeps the cash flow continue. Besides, one should be careful not to offend Emperor Xi; else, the whole world gets to play where's Jackie C (much like Jack Ma currently and previously Fan Bing Bing).
Well, the concern is to make as much as possible while he still can - just in case he lives to over a 100 , can't earn anymore then and needs to maintain his lifestyle. He's barely able to earn more these days based on his last couple of movies. He looks tired in that Vanguard 2020 movie. Also, as far as I can see, Jaycee Chan is not doing very well in the entertainment industry on his own. He may need the money from daddy. Besides, who knows how many other children of Jackie are there.
I saw an article a while back though, that Jackie wasn't going to leave any of his $ with Jaycee...although not sure if that's true or not from Jackie...
that was before jaycee got arrested for drugs, jackie chan supposedly pledged to donate all his fortune to charity when he dies, he backed out after jaycee got caught for drugs... he is just creating another parasite/second-gen-rich that does nothing for the community. really dont see why he wants to lick CCP's boot when he should have enough money to last for his life.
I believe Jackie has its own stuntman company and movie company. Not sure what else he has in its assets other than real estate. He wants to join the CCP so that he can dictate the law accordingly. In China, a communist party, there is a limit to how much you can do with money alone. Real power comes from money and political influence.
KilaKilaGirl I doubt Jackie C can change / dictate any laws for HK; much less for China. Jack Ma is a member of CCP and all he did was said the wrong words - MIA since; likely in re-education camp? Not sure if Fan Bing Bing is a member; but, they made an example out of her for tax evasion. Lord knows what she (as pretty, hot actress) had to do during her MIA.
