Etta Ng Homeless, Cries for Help on YouTube

Etta Ng (吳卓林) and girlfriend, Internet personality Andi Autumn, have been homeless in Canada for one month. They found themselves nowhere to turn because of “homophobic parents”. Unwilling to stay at a homeless shelter because the lesbian lovers would be split up, Etta and Andi felt desperate and uploaded a YouTube video crying out for help.

Disregarding her mother Elaine Ng‘s (吳綺莉) disapproval, 18-year-old Etta has been dating her tutor, 30-year-old Andi since last year. Etta and Andi left for Canada without notifying Elaine, who panicked and called the police after not hearing from her daughter for five months. Initially, the lovers stayed at Andi’s friend’s house. After they outstayed their welcome, and without Andi’s family and friends willing to help them, the lovers found themselves homeless.

Apparently, Etta thinks that revealing herself to be Jackie Chan‘s (成龍) daughter would make others more willing to help her. Etta published a YouTube video on April 24 crying out for help. In the video, Etta said, “Hi, I’m Jackie Chan’s daughter, Etta, and this is my girlfriend, Andi. We’ve been homeless for a month due to homophobic parents. We’ve pretty much slept under a bridge and other things.”

Unwilling to go to a homeless shelter because she would be separated from Andi, Etta said, “We’ve gone to the police, the hospital, food banks, LGBT community, shelters, and all of them just don’t give a sh*t. So that’s why we’re making this video. We don’t know what to do at this point.” Expressing anger that two people in love have to be separated, Etta and Andi urged people to re-post and share the video online so they can find help soon.

Elaine Ng Angry Over Etta’s Actions

At first relieved that Etta is safe, Elaine Ng’s reaction soon turned towards anger. Elaine felt it was wrong for Etta to advertise she is Jackie Chan’s daughter while asking for help, especially since the 64-year-old action star was an absentee father. Blasting Andi for being a bad influence over Etta, Elaine said, “She’s already 30-something and is a teacher and has working experience. How can she tell an 18-year-old girl to film such a clip? It’s the wrong value. I feel that if they have no money, they should go find work. They shouldn’t film a clip telling others they are broke and who Etta’s father is. People all over the world work hard, instead of relying on someone else’s fame to get money.”

Elaine continued to rant, “Everyone has to rely on themselves to work hard. They should not blame their parents. Many people in Hong Kong get paid low wages, but they still go to work. If they don’t have work, then they’ll film these videos to complain about their parents? How many of these videos would we see in a day then?”

In the video, Etta admitted that she has posttraumatic stress disorder (PSTD). Asked about this, Elaine said, “Etta has emotional problems. She was seeing a doctor last year. Since she left Hong Kong, she hasn’t gone to therapy.” Asked if she has been in touch with Etta in the last few days, Elaine said, “I don’t want to talk about it.”
