Despite possessing a tall and fit physique suitable for lead roles, 31-year-old Matthew Ko (高鈞賢) experienced a bottleneck in his TVB career as he continued to portray villainous characters with little screen time. Unable to breakthrough from this pigeonhole, Matthew ended his nine-year working relationship with TVB last September and sought further development in Mainland China. Against all odds, the former Mr. Hong Kong winner found relative success after starring in the popular drama series, The Classic of Mountains and Seas <山海經之赤影傳說> and OB Gyns 2 <愛的婦產科2>. After finding his first bag of riches in only one year of working in China, Matthew decided to invest the money in his own restaurant for more growth opportunities. Due to the income instabilities resulting from being a free agent, Matthew returned to Hong Kong and decided to invest in a restaurant specializing in Japanese-style steak. “Opening a restaurant has been my dream since I was young. Especially since I am the Bull King and love to eat beef. Even when I was filming in Changsha and celebrated my 31st birthday, I chose a restaurant famous for its beef dish specialties. So the restaurant that I am investing in with my elementary school friends will specialize in Japanese-style steak.” Investing a six-figure sum, Matthew shared that he will be highly involved in the restaurant operations. Planning to keep the costs down, Matthew hopes to gain profits within six months. “Right now, doing business is not easy and has its risks. Two years ago, I invested in a children’s [art school]. Although I neither gained nor lost money before transferring [the business], I realized that without hard work, there will be no profits.” Hopes to Restart Filming Career with TVB Since returning to Hong Kong, Matthew hopes to continue his television career. Admitting that he maintains a cordial relationship with TVB management executive, Sandy Yue (余詠珊), Matthew recalled, “Actually, on the day I was leaving TVB, Sandy persuaded me to stay and promised that they’ll give me more opportunities. Afterwards, I drove to TVB and tried to meet with Sandy to further discuss it, but she wasn’t there. Maybe it was fated that I left. I am on good terms with Sandy. This time, I will try to seek her out again. I’ll even personally deliver steak to her. In order to make a living, I’ll even feed her!” Creds: stheadline
lol, "In order to make a living, I’ll even feed her!”... sadly, some people gotta live like that in real life. Life sucks if you dont kiss ass sometimes.
All about scrubbing shoes like John Ma IMO, he has the looks. If he had success with 2 mainland dramas, then maybe it's enough proof for TVB to give him non-kelefe roles.
It seems like he did alright but not great in Mainland...Trying to come back to TVB to make some side money and bring some fame to help his business... I understand why he wants to have his own business, if he knows how to do it than fine but I really don't like these people who just does it cause it was a dream but has no real life experience in how to run a restaurant. It very hard and in HK, where the competition is fierce. Can't do it half ass.
Oscar was getting popular. But he stagnated over the last year or two; haven't been seeing him much. He's still on Big Boys Club though..
Good for him, I think more artist need to do this to show TVB that it's not the end of the world for them to leave TVB.... TVB have far too much of a monopoly over the industry and thus are in the position to favour certain ppl over others and pay them shite cos they know not all of them will be willing to leave Oscar was friendly though in real life was willing to stay back to chat and talk to fans even after event finished and cameras weren't filming/taking photos
H! Oscar was a kelefe for a long time and his girlfriend (now wife?) stuck with him through all those hard times. That's why he's always thankful to her cause she stuck with him even though he could barely make a living for himself. True humble guy.
Oscar and his wife was going out for a long time before they got married and she even took care of him when he was still struggling.
oh I remember Mathhew he was hunky he was first ever Mr Hong Kong winner does this contest still exist? good to hear still doing well in mainlands
Seems like 2011 was the last one. Matthew Ko, Benjamin Yuen, William Chak, Stephen Wong (and his brother), Rocky Cheng and are the notable ones. I googled Rocky Cheng and he's 47. He joined Mr HK in 2005 meaning 10 years ago at 37. The man is shameless
We see lots of Stephen in decent supporting roles. William Chak and Alan always kelefe roles. Both of them are trolls though.. Benjamin the first and probably highest ceiling with the lead role. I'm liking him so far in the Fixer.
Ahh well seeing how he was in real life to the fans ... i can see why his gf/wife stuck with him. True down to earth guy
