For the first half of 2015, top headlining acts have already been lined up at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Scheduled to perform in January, G.E.M.‘s (鄧紫棋) concert tickets have reportedly sold better than even Cantopop superstars, Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文) and Jacky Cheung (張學友).

Known for her powerful vocals, G.E.M.’s popularity increased even further due to her participation in Mainland China reality TV program, I am a Singer: 2 <我 是歌手2>, which helped her earn millions of fans from China.

G.E.M.’s popularity led to a sharp increase in her concert ticket prices. Previously, the most expensive ticket offered was a VIP package priced at $1200 HKD, which included limited edition G.E.M. merchandise and a backstage meet-and-greet. The same VIP package now costs $1880 HKD. The prices for G.E.M.’s tickets are even more than the prices commanded by superstars from overseas.

In contrast, the most expensive tickets offered by Sammi Cheng and Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅) only cost $680 HKD.

Whether such high prices would disgruntle fans remains a question. While some diehard fans would pay any price to interact with G.E.M., others may find the price hard to swallow.

I'm a picky person when it comes to music (which it's y i only listen to techno, trance and 70s, 80s 90s cantopop/American pop because pplz simply CANNOT SING and the music is crap nowadays) and i do not think sammi and miriam could sing. However, i think GEM is definitely one of the few legit singer in HK nowadays. I'm not a fan of hers, but every time when she does a cover for some old song, i listen to it and i got goosebumps.

Who are you to judge Sammi can't sing? Have you heard her singing live before? Her previous all sold out shows around the world proved something. Even her upcoming 10 shows for Touch Mi sold out within seconds. I don't deny GEM can sing, but she's no where near Sammi or even Joey. Superstar like Sammi and Jacky just want to perform for fans, not making money from their fans. Nuff said.

They both can sing but I don't agree that GEM is nowhere near Sammi/Joey.
Sammi and Joey lack GEM's power. GEM lacks their feminine charisma in her voice. You can say Sammi and Joey can sing, but you can't put GEM down because of it.

I'm sure GEM is not only singing for the money; although I disagree with the high ticket prices for her concert, for a 90s singer who's able to revive the HK music industry, why not? I personally would not pay so much to meet her in person despite being a GEM fan, but there's no need to bring other artists into the picture.

Who am i? I'm nobody. I'm just a guy typing out his OPINION. And yes, my OPINION is sammi and miriam CANNOT sing. JAcky on the other hand, is a god of song, huge fans of his ever since. I even used his romance songs to hook up with a girl. And btw, "sold out" concert doesn't mean he/she can sing. "Nuff" said.
