The greatest fears of life are often connected to the unknown, and for many people the greatest unknown is what happens one second after death. As a born Catholic ( where there is no such thing as life after death), going against the grain of my religion.. I want to believe that I could have a chance make up for lost time, mistakes and miss opportunities in my next life..somehow, belief in life after death is a source of personal security, optimism, and spiritual betterment. Nothing offers more courage than the confidence that there is a better life for those who use the present to prepare for eternity.
It's interesting that most people think the idea of the after-life stems from the fear of the unknown, the fear of death. Almost all non-believers of the after-life will say that nothing happens after you die, "it's scientifically proven". Let's take a look at it from a different view point, the knowledge of our science extends only to what we have discovered on Earth, and an infinitesimal pixels we see via our satellites and space probe. One can easily make the argument that our knowledge of the universe is practically zero, given the ever expanding size of it. So if we know nothing about the universe, how are we sure that the after-life doesn't exist? It doesn't exist to our extent of OUR knowledge, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist in the scope of the universe. Say the after-life does exist. What if the after-life isn't an "after" life? What if our life as we know it is merely a simulation, sort of a before-life, in which the real reality is elsewhere? What is reality? Anyway, these are questions that are best left for experts, philosophers to solve. We need not have answers to these questions, but the whole point is to make people realize that what we know is that we know nothing. So to say with absoluteness that an after-life (and God by extension) does or does not exist, it's pure ignorance and closed-mindedness. This goes to Atheists and Religious alike.
since i turned 30, i think more and more about death and what would happen when i'm like 80 and i can't escape death anymore like all the famous people who died this year, venezuela president, margaret thatcher etc etc i get scared then i try not to think about it :( what happens after death ? :(
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Of course, it is written in the bible. If you examine your own life -your actions and thoughts. We can clearly see we are all sinners and we can't save ourselves. You can try to but only Jesus can. The consequence of sin is death so Jesus had to come and take our place and die for us so we can be reunited with God. Without Jesus, there is no reconciliation.
Double face palm......Dan, I guess you and I and all those in Japan, China and those countries that don't believe in Jesus or those eskimo's who never heard of jesus will all go to hell. What a loving father. But I guess if he did it once by killing everyone in Noah's flood, he can do it again. So much for tho shall not kill! By the way, John 3.16?? Really? The all almighty can't think of a better way to save humankind? An omnipotent god chooses not to use his power to simply forgive mankind, but instead implements a solution which requires he impregnate a teenage girl in order to give birth to himself so he can have himself slaughtered to save human beings from the hell that he created in the 1st place?? He then decides to communicate his plan through conflicting accounts penned decades later by anonymous authors (most likely sheep herders) and subjectively handed down by flawed translators who can't even agree on the interpretation of "virgin". I'm just saying.......
