Let's discuss this. One of my male friends told me he modeled nude for a photographer before.

Any ideas? What do you think about nude photography? Do you want to take nudes of models?

    Two main questions:

If you are a male photographer, what do you think of shooting a male nude? Would you do it? (assuming you are straight and it may be awkward to shoot a male). Vice versa if you are a female photographer.

Would you mind modelling for others? If you are a male, are u comfortable modeling for a male? Female for a male?

Any other topics will work too

Ok, lets put it that way...

if you are a professional photographer and accept nude photography then it doesn't really matter if there is a male of female in front of you, because you as a photographer just want a nice photo and do your work.
What do I think about nude photography? Well, it's just one type of photography out of many, nothing special. If there is an opportunity to take nude or part nude photography, why not?

Personally I wouldn't model at all, I don't care if nude or not, just not for me. Shooting a male model, why not? They are paying money like any other clients, no reason not to do it.
Remember you are a photographer, you are not going to have any physical relationship with your model!

After writing this, I still don't know the purpose of this thread. It's kind of meaningless, because it's so general. You won't ask this type of question to a hobby photographer because "normally" they won't get such opportunities. Asking a professional, look what I wrote above.

I guess there are specializations for all photographers but if you getting horny shooting females you will just come off as a creep. If you want to make photography a career you would have to be extremely professional. Of course though you can definitely refuse shooting same sex nudes if you feel uncomfortable doing so but then you are limiting yourself by neglecting the other market.

I agree with Crystal and [N]; the OP question comes off like a creepy amateur photographer seeing tits for the time (ie the social sexual aspect of the question). Have I taken photographs of nudes; yes. Did I think too much of it; no. I was more focused on the lighting, exposure and other technical aspects of the craft. In essence, it could have been any other product shot except we had to feed it lunch, LOL...

You are wrong about this because you clearly do not know much about the field. I would ask this question to a hobby photographer. Check out modelmayhem. ALOT of photographer are hobbyists and they are shooting nudes. Why would the people model for them then? 1. MONEY 2. They need to photos to progress further in their career by exemplifying their work in their portfolio.

Jut because you don't know the purpose doesn't mean there isn't a purpose. You're like a frog stuck in a well. Your knowledge is limited and when I'm discussing something outside of your knowledge, you think that it's a dumb question simply because you don't know what I'm talking about.

ALSO! Alot of times, the photographer pays to shoot models naked. MOST OF THE TIME that is the case.

don't know what you guys are reading, but NO WHERE do I write anything about being horny and not professional.

guess not. My definition of "extremely professional" means the person in front of you is merely a muse, your sexual preference should not affect your judgement unless of course your own sexual desires will enlighten you to shoot more desirable photos for your target consumers.

Ahh... therein lies the rub. The fact that you can ask a question like this in the first place shows that it has special social significance to you. Whereas to most people who have done nude work before, the question would be liken to a new driver talking about the wonders of parallel parking; all the other drivers will immediately know that he's doing it for the first time. Photographers that regularly do nudes never bother focusing on the fact that someone is naked; it would be akin to saying "I'm using a real camera." The only people who ever publicly harp on doing nudes, are: 1. people doing it for the first time, or 2. creepy amateurs, under the aegis of "art" and getting to see tits for the first time. Whether you're seeing tits for the first time or not, is immaterial. This wasn't an ad hominem attack directed at you personally, but rather, my observation of the question posed; which to me (for the rationale already listed), it just comes off that way, is all.

Having said that, as for photographers paying to shoot nudes; meh... For a real photographer, they would be paying you. Back in the day (I'm talking late 80's), I used to charge test shoots $50 bucks per 35mm BW roll plus contacts (with four roll minimum and no rights). Pretty people, naked or not, are found the world over; if they want good quality work for their book, then they need to pay for it. Of course, there is supply and demand, and quality of work, word of mouth, et cetera; all of that matters. A shooter with a shitty book will never get anyone to pose for him, much less get anyone to pay him. But, on the other hand, serious models know that the creation of an image isn't an accident and more importantly isn't just based on his or her good looks or their ego, no matter its size. Good looking people, who are serious about their modeling craft, will pay and pay well, for photographs that present them in their best light. Some prefer to do nudes, which generally requires closed sets. All modeling, regardless, required legal releases.

And finally, in answer to your question? Their gender was immaterial; it didn't matter. The fact that they're naked didn't either, except for the provision of a closed set and having an appropriate chaperon on the set at all times.

"And finally, in answer to your question? Their gender was immaterial; it didn't matter. The fact that they're naked didn't either, except for the provision of a closed set and having an appropriate chaperon on the set at all times."

@ raplh: HA! chaperon? What's the need for that if your ideas are pure like what you've stated? I've talked to many many photographers and modelmayhem and they do not want chaperons on the set. Looks like you're not very professional yourself.

We're all humans. If you are trying to say " shooting nudes is not awkward it's like shooting an inanmate object," fine. That is purely YOUR experience. You compared driving to taking nudes. I'm sure even if a photographer has taken nudes with 100+ models, there are times when it gets awkward or when the model is shy or when the model is modelling nude for the first time. You're very narrow minded for categorizing someone as "creepy amateur photographer seeing tits for the time".

You seem to make alot of assumptions ("creepy amateur photographer seeing tits for the time") when you respond to posts. Shows how narrowminded you are. You really are making unjustified judgements about me without having the need to do this/ having enough evidence to do this.

Oh smart guy, when did I say I was the photographer? Just because I asked the question? So If I say " hey everyone what is it like to fight a fire inside a burning building," then I am a firefighter?

And you went on to talk about how models are willing to pay for a great set of nudes to be taken. Sure, but you are simply talking about a very small percentage. Most models under management DO NOT WILL NOT pay for " a great set of nudes to be taken". Usually, it is TFP.
"guess not. My definition of "extremely professional" means the person in front of you is merely a muse, your sexual preference should not affect your judgement unless of course your own sexual desires will enlighten you to shoot more desirable photos for your target consumers. "

That's your opinion. So anything outside of YOUR OPINION of professional is not professional and can be categorize "if you getting horny shooting females you will just come off as a creep." That's ridiculous. Ridiculous. Why? How do YOU know what a photographer feels deep down and whether he is horny or not? How can you draw that line to distinguish between professional and NOT professional with that criteria?

Someone also wrote" if you are professional photographer, you do not care about the sex of the person in front of you" ?!??!?!?!?!?
    !??!?!?!?
    WHAT?

So if I'm a pro photographer, I don't need to care how red an apple is. I'll just photograph ANY apple. Photographers don't have criterias when choosing models? Whether male or female?

    Another interesting note is:

    ---

In the end, it is my fault for posting this question on this forum because I targeted the wrong people and the people who are responding are actually the immature ones. Simply posting a question = OP comes off as creepy amateur photographer seeing tits for the time.

Clearly, I would not get any first hand experience/helpful suggestions here aside from pure slandering which DOES NOT even address my posts

How else do you want people to "address" your post? Tell you that you were right and we should be awkward to shoot model of the same sex as us?

Did not address your second question because i have no interest in modeling whatsoever but you if you want the answer there it is. If you wanted a more detailed answer maybe make your question more detailed. Are you at concerned for your friend modeling nude? Are you a photographer questioning these work areas? What are you hoping to accomplish with this question?

Lol all our replies were merely suggestions or personal experiences, none of them targeting you but somehow your insecurities or intentions for shooting nudes took all this personally. I guess we accidentally and indirectly unveiled the man behind the mask sorry.

Wow, what's happening here? I just gave you MY opinion on this topic and you responding like that?

    1. Oh yes, I do not know much about Photography. I think I need another 10 years on top of the 10 years I already have of pro photography experience INCLUDING this AWKWARD topic NUDE photography to be qualified to answer your question. It's just my job, but hey, who cares :)

    2. I am a frog stuck in a well and my knowledge is limited in that field and I feel intimidated? Boy, get your things right, we just shared our opinion with you, take it or leave it.

You got it wrong. If you are just doing your job, it does NOT matter if there is a nude male or nude female in front of you for the shooting. Photographer's have criterias but that does not mean it HAS to include the sex of the model.
If I advertise myself as a nude photographer to the public and accept only one gender, people would say that's sexism. Same as I say I only shoot white people.

Stay cool and take the answers as they are, pretty sure no one will answer any other questions of yours when you going offensive on everything what others say.

I feel like I triggered a proximity trap and now it's shooting in every direction ^^

At the very end, that's only my opinion as a dumb frog stuck in a fucking well =) Have a nice day.
