I thought i'd revive this thread.

I'm building a computer after exams (in 1 week- im procrastinating right now) and was hoping for some opinions on this and if any parts should be changed. I'm limited to a 1k AUD budget. and these parts put it just a little over which is ok.
I know a little about computers, but i haven't been up to date in the last few years in regards to parts and what's out at the moment. I'll be using it for all around use and Gaming.

    CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K
Mobo: GA-Z77X- UD3H (possibly the version with wifi as well )
    RAM: G.skill 8gb (2 x 4gb) 1600Mhz (not sure which exact one yet)
    HDD : 1tb Caviar Blue
    GPU: Sapphire OC 7850 2gb
    PSU: Antec TP-750
    Case: Corsair Carbide 400R
    HSF necessary?
Just going to use a spare optical drive i already have.

I'm not goign to OC it yet, but its a possibility in the future i want to keep open.
THe main parts im not really sure of is Mobo and RAM. there's so many different ones out there at the moment .

    Thanks.

Swap the 1tb for a SSD and you're good.

SSD's are great and huge performance boost to any computer. Just make sure your motherboard can handle the speed of SSD drives. During my R&D we tested SSD's with some recent laptops and not all of them are compatible with SSD Drives. Although they can detect the drive and you are able to install OS, it is very unstable. Once you get BSOD you have a chance of losing all your data on the SSD. This is because the drive shut's down faster than the motherboard's bios sequence and corrupts the boot sector. HP and Dell has updated all their recent bios for newer system but did not do this for older systems. Most SSD manufacturers has updated the firmware on their SSD drives. So if you are planning to get a SSD. Make sure you have the latest bios for your system and the latest firmware for the SSD drive.

i got mine from a combination of ARC and mwave in sydney.
i bought in store, but their prices online are the same and shipping for the whole build is about $50. and pccasegear.com.au is pretty good as well.. just bought a new modem from them and received it the next day.

  14. Came across this image. Not my photo, but I've always wanted to make a second machine like this. Shitty looking case, looks like a Pentium 3, powered by a beast. I'll bet air flow sucks balls.
