invite me to what. i see no thread directed to me. not that i have much interest in such a section in the first place. i made this thread about history, and its obvious nobody has anything for me in that regard. if you want to talk about something pointless like my motivation for doing this or how im doing it; then make your move. wouldn't change anything though.

this the fun you are talking about?

Dude, you have to understand your audience, majority of the people here are not interested in China history nor do they care. We can all agree with you that the video is inaccurate and the people who made it are clueless or did very little research in chinese/japanese culture. I would be more incline to discuss with you if it was a movie and they screwed up all the historical/cultural events. But this is just a music video. So like Dan said....who cares.

As for the invitation. It's not only to the link above, it can be any of the other topics Dan and I had (and we had quite a few), Feel free to start a new thread, it can be anything related to religion or politics. Just not Chinese history unless you want to talk about return of the condor heroes or the duke of Mt Deer etc....LOL

And stop being so MAD, chill out and relax......use the forum to get your point across and educate us, but no need to get your blood pressure up.

  6. Historical threads are great! One can never stop learning about history.

But in regards to this particular topic (the music video), I'd like to ask you one question: How long do you think it will take Rihanna and Coldplay's fans to completely forget about this particular music video?

And in contrast, let's take a movie that's historically inaccurate, say Gladiator. Gladiator is one of the most successful movies in the last decade. How long did it take the audience to forget about this movie?

Unless the history books and encyclopaedia sources make these inaccuracies permanent, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

yes, everyone keeps telling me to chill and who cares. im not trying to rally a crowd or anything. at the very least, i just wanted this written and posted out there on the internet. not in other group's faces, just in Chinese chat.

did you know if you google "stealing chinese culture" this thread is among the top results? honestly, that is already enough for me.

This. It's not like the Chinese don't "steal" from other cultures. They go as far as stealing a whole Austrian town lol.

I have a miniature plum blossom tree, pink flowers and all, potted up. Plum blossoms are a symbolic thing inherent to the winter beauty in Chinese culture and I enjoy tending the tree (and other plants) over the years. Once in a while, some people tell me it reminds them of Japanese culture. You know... bonsai and cherry blossoms... in Chinese culture the same practice is called penzai/penjing. Although, both things are still very related through cultural diffusion, the Chinese ones predate.

I enjoy reading academic books about history/culture while commuting, telling about it sometimes, and perhaps sharing it online/irl instead of making angry comments about it... especially youtube, which is less than irrelevant and hardly productive... I don't get it.
