Oscar Leung's Huge Financial Burden Plus Fake Rape Rumours Drive Stress Levels Up

Talented actor, Oscar Leung (梁烈唯), often lamented that he had no money. He hoped that he could get married with his girlfriend of 9 years, Tina, but unfortunately, Oscar did not have the financial capability to achieve this. With both his father and brother in bankrupcy, Oscar was forced to financially support his family. Recording 7 TVB dramas to this date with hardly any time to rest, Oscar also had a side job working part time as a cashier in a restaurant to make ends meet. Mixed up in fabricated rape rumors, Oscar was worried that he might lose his job, causing his stress levels to skyrocket!

Oscar said, “I was afraid that I was going to be thought of as a sex pervert! My stress level was extremely high; I was fearful of losing my job. My entire family depended on me!” Oscar is currently paying rent for his family’s apartment and garage spot.

Bankruptcies in the Leung Family

Oscar’s father, Mr. Leung, declared bankruptcy as a result of his failed business in the past. In 2007, Oscar’s elder brother, Leung Lit Tai, was sued by HSBC Bank for $1.563 million in unpaid debts. This pushed Oscar’s brother to file for bankruptcy as well.

Oscar recalled, “About 10 years ago, at the height of my father’s career, he established a plastics business and purchased a house. Unfortunately, he went into a negative equity situation and could no longer pay for the mortgage. The bank reclaimed the house, forcing my father to declare bankruptcy.” The house was sold in a foreclosure auction for a value lower than what Mr. Leung purchased it for, the family was forced to repay the total difference and mortgage interest.

Oscar added, “Since my elder brother had a job at a bank at that time and had a stable income, the bank required that he be included as the loan guarantor. After my father filed for bankruptcy, my brother was held accountable for [my father's] debts.” After Leung Lit Tai relocated and found a new job, he learned that HSBC Bank was not able to contact him to pay for the past debts. The case was brought to court in 2007, pushing Oscar’s brother to enter bankruptcy.

With nearly $20,000 HKD in family bills to pay, Oscar Leung worked hard to earn whatever possible. His father was currently out of work. His brother did not live at home. He promised to help with the debts if he capable to do so. As a result of his father and brother’s bankruptcies’, Oscar had to delay his own marriage dreams. He wishes to save enough money to buy an apartment prior to getting married with his girlfriend, Tina.

Luckily, Oscar's popularity went up following the broadcast of L’Escargot <缺宅男女>, Oscar received more job offers. He was in movie, Natural Born Lovers <天生愛情狂> with Mandy Wong (黃智雯), and started to take place in more promotional events.

Rape Rumours Cause Havoc on Oscar's Stress Level

Apart from the unfortunate financial trouble at home, Oscar Leung was accused of raping actress, Kimmy Kwan (關婉珊) at a bar on May 4th, with Timmy Hung (洪天明) present. Given that the Hong Kong Police department didn't have a rape case on file, Oscar’s name was swiftly cleared. Timmy also vouched that Oscar was innocent.

The person who had spread the rape rumors against Oscar, remain a mystery. Oscar professed that he got along well with people and had no idea who or where such rumors came from.

Oscar had nightmares that his persona would suffer negatively from the fabricated rape rumors. In a time where he desperately needed money to help clear his family's debt, he was afraid of losing his job and losing a major income source. He said, “Fortunately, TVB took care of me very well and trusted me greatly!” Oscar’s work load continues to increase despite his negative rumors.
