While men cheat on their wives in the popular Men Suddenly in Black, its sequel, though still a black comedy, focuses on the women's striking back instead. Eric Tsang and Theresa Mo play husband and wife again, as they have done recently in 2 Young (2005) for which Mo won the Best Supporting Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Another couple from Men Suddenly in Black, Jordan Chan (Initial D) and Marsha Yuan, continues to star in the sequel. In this new battle between the two genders, the women's struggle in breaking their own moral standards and their inexperience in doing so result in plenty of humorous moments in Men Suddenly in Black 2. Theresa Mo plays successful lawyer Mary Cheung who leads her friends (Marsha Yuan, Josie Ho, and Gia Lin) to revenge against their unfaithful men by having extra-marital affairs themselves. As first time cheaters, they of course run into a lot of troubles. At the same time, Mary's husband Tin (Eric Tsang) and his infidelity outing buddies (Jordan Chan, Cheung Tat Ming, Wong Yau Nam) sense something fishy about the ladies' whereabouts lately. The follow them to a ladies-only nightclub in Macau... With the script written by three women, namely Aubrey Lam (director of Twelve Nights), Heiward Mak, and Teresa Mo (also actress and producer of this film), Men Suddenly in Black 2 articulates romantic relationships from the women's perspective, contrary to Edmond Pang's male angle in the original. Parodies of Johnnie To's Election add more fun to the frequent hilarious scenes, making Men Suddenly in Black 2 a very entertaining piece. It also features a surprising and witty ending just like the end-twist in the original film. The numerous cameos are fun, especially with Jim Chim playing the nightclub in-charge and Sandra Ng as Ninth Auntie who teaches the ladies how to cheat.
